Default British RBR - Colin Lynes v Juho Tolppola - European Light-Welter title

    Welcome back guys,

Friday night action once again this week after the excellent fare dished up last week by Pickering and Hughes.
Tonight's fight comes from the Goresbrook Leisure Centre in Dagenham, where Colin Lynes defends his European Light Welterweight title again Finn Juho Tolppola.

Here's the tale of the tape as I can call it:

Colin Lynes (30-3, 12KOs) is the former British titlist who has sneaked up almost unnoticed on the inside rail of the light welter scene in this country, moving well over recent times into claiming the European title last time out against Young Muttley last July. Lynes is a competent boxer with a stronger punch than his record suggests, and should have the edgo over Tolppola in this warm-up for his clash with Gianluca Branco at the end of February. Lynes will have the fans behind him in East London, and will be expecting to outbox Tolppola and grab another stoppage win, and certainly avoid a cut or an injury which could jeopardise his bout with Branco. A KO win will also boost his travelling support when he flies to Milan next month.

Juho Tolppola (20-3-1, 9KOs) is expected to purely turn up and give Lynes a nice warm-up for the fight, but with the European title on the line there is no doubt that Tolppola will be looking to throw a spanner in the works and claim that title for himself. Tolppola has had a competent, if uninspiring record so far, and although he's never been stopped by KO, a cut in his last bout ended in a TD. Having lost in his last challenge for this title in Jan 07 on points to Michele Di Rocco, Tolppola will be looking to regain the form which gave him a Bronze medal in the European Senior Championships when he was still an amateur.

Hard to look beyond the obvious result on this one, and a comfortable UD for Lynes is my call.

Coverage starts at 10pm GMT, 11pm Continental Europe and 5pm EST. Seeya then.

CC Rhun I'll be on hand once again to offer my views and if this weeks match will be half as good as last weeks I'll be happy.

I'm picking Lynes by UD, if people are picking him by KO expect a surprise as Young Mutley was severely weight drained when the two fought as he is a natural welter and also Lynes is not a banger.

Anyways let's hope for a good matchup and I'll see you at 10PM (PROMPT this time ) JK bro

OK, the coverage is about to start in about 5 minutes or so, and action will be another 10 to 15 minutes after that. Seeya in a short while.

    Ringwalks....

Tolppola looking focussed, though not looking like a big star....coming in in a T-shirt and beanie. His music is the kind of stuff you'd see on an epic whilst a small outnumbered army are marching to almost certain death in battle. Very Eastern European.

Lynes gets a huge ovation as his name is announced, and he's obviously a very popular guy, and understandably so after the pre-fight interviews. He might be the lesser name in British LWW boxers, but he's got a good following out in East London tonight. Queen's "One Vision" is a good song to walk into.

    Next up, it's fight time.

    Round 1:

Judges from Germany, Bulgaria and the Netherlands. Interesting Mix, and add that to a Spanish ref, and could make for a bit of unpredictability. There is one fairly nice looking Finnish bird in the audience cheering for Tolppola. Lynes getting a rapturous welcome as they come together for the ref's orders.

Lynes looking sharp early doors, with some sharp jabs. He's slightly taller. Good jab and straight right landing firmly. Good movement from Lynes, who's pushing Tolppola back early here. Tolppola finds gloves with a couple of jabs. Lynes jabs, but Tolppola puts in a couple of hooks, only finding arms though. Tolppola keeping a high guard. He plants his feet and throws a couple of firm hooks, finding guard though. Good body shot from Lynes. They exchange landing jabs, then a body shot from Lynes. Decent left hook finds the target for Lynes. Tolppola lands a wide right hook to the body. Lynes' stiff jab doing good work for him. Tolppola with a left to the body.

    Lynes round. 10-9

Round 1 for Lynes IMO, Lynes Jab is really well and effective and not much happening however Lynes in control in the centre of the ring and Tolppola threw hardly anything.

    10-9 Lynes.

    Round 2:

It's still pretty cagey. Good counter right hook from Tolppola there as Lynes looks to land. Right to the body, but a follow up hook is blocked by Lynes. Tolppola looking more adventures. Nice left hook from Lynes, his jab still doing good work. Straight right from Lynes blocked. Lynes with a decent flurry to the body.. Not too much action this round. Tolppola falls short with a long right to the body. Lynes doubles the jab. Tolppola with a right to the body, but fairly long and looping. Two big right hooks from Lynes. Lynes with a left hook. Two good right hooks from Tolppola, and Lynes looks a little rattled on the bell.

    Lynes' round.

I give the second 10-9 to Lynes, Tolppola caught him with a couple of good rights in the final seconds but Colin just outworking and out punching his opponent

    Round 3:

Two body hooks from Tolppola. Lynes continuing to use the jab well. Tolppola doesn't land on the way in, and clinches. Left hook from Lynes, then gets out of range. Another good left hook from Lynes. Nice jab and right hook. Lynes working well, with a straight right and a left to the body. Uppercut from Tolppola not backed with much power, and Lynes getting his rhythm with good hooks, and Tolppola seems nonplussed as to what else he can do. Flurry of short punches find gloves. Left hook from Tolppola, but a follow-up flurry blocked weell by Lynes. Good right from Lynes, and Tolppola on his bike a little.

    Lynes shutout so far.
    30-27
