I still see Oscar as a valid opponent. Due to poor scoring the fight is considered close by the media(the ring had it 115-114 or something and the judges scored a SD). However this fight is good for Floyd because Oscar possesses a lot of similar attributes that Cotto has as well. They both are converted southpaw or at least dominant lefties, they both throw great left hooks and jabs and they both have good handspeed. I feel that Cotto's determination to land punches will actually hurt him in this fight because Mayweahter is still way faster than him, and he is the master of countering an opponent and getting out of the way of their retaliation. Another thing is that Mayweather can handle body shots from the best of them, Oscar doesn't go to the body normally a whole lot, but he has always landed heavy down there he wanted to and he landed mostly to the body against Mayweather he didn't ever hurt Mayweather with his body shots, just like Castillo who is another great body puncher couldn't truly get to Floyd with body shots. Also Mosley did his best when he used movement those few rounds around 8 or 9 and he was able to counter effectively, and Cotto wasn't able to sink into his punches. Mayweather moves way better than Mosley, and Cotto will have to keep on reseting himself while getting counter punched and I see Mayweather having enough power to hurt Cotto.
