Default What The Hell Was The Matter With David Tua Against Lennox Lewis ??

I saw this fight again yesterday and i forgot how bad Tua looked. He fought with no fire at all and just kept followed Lewis around not throwing any other punch except the slow predictable left hook. Where was the fire or the motivation ?? Lewis was only throwing the jab for most of the fight, and it was mostly a cautious jab with no real power on it, but the question im asking is why Tua had no fire in him ??

Couple of reasons here. Tua came in too heavy and not fit against Lewis. His best fighting weight was around 230, and he fought Lewis at 245.
Second of all he may not have been scared of the jab but scared of the potential bombs behind it if he did jump in. All in all he never really had a chance agaisnt Lennox.

Because he was a short heavyweight with limited mobility facing somebody he knew could box his head off at long range all night without Tua being able to do much in return.

Lennox Lewis was the matter with him.

Sometimes when you can see something isn't happening it's because the other fighter is making sure it won't... sometimes you can see it, sometimes you can't

He was fat,out of shape, sold on the one punch and done myth and Lewis basically beat him with a stiff jab, smart boxing & feints.
Tua not having fire was not new entering the Lewis fight. He is one of the most frustrating Heavys in recent memory.

Excellent points...Lewis had that effect on many good fighters....With Lewis many guys went in with a game plan and no worries but for some reason the plan unraveled.....Lewis also had a way of making guys worry about the follow up....the way he would at times just kind of put the left out there real weak.....having his opp worried about the big right if they got lazy...and everyone knew what that right hand could do if Lennox landed it.....Does not mean they were scared just cautious....Plus the weight was of no help....

The bs trainer Tua had didn't help matters.Instead of giving him pointers all he could say is (screaming)"you're going to lose" at the same time on the otherside of the ring ES was talking LL through it like he does all of his fighters.

I think Tua knew that if he let his hands go he might get a Lewis right hand in return and it might have been lights out.

Tua was never a technically good fighter, he was a big strong brawler with a good deal of power. Lennox was just too good, too tall with a huge reach advantage and a smarter boxing brain. He just played with Tua.....which did make it a bit boring but after McCall and Rahman he was never gonna let Tua get close enough to do the damage.

I can imagine how easy it was for Lewis he was basically fighting a fat midget. In size terms

Tua has a great chin though. Has he ever been hurt?

Rahman knocked him down but as it happened at the end of the round the ref didn't count it.

I still wonder how a fight with Wladimir would have gone.....I never liked David Tua's style as it was so one dimensional and he never threw a ton of punches per round after the Ibeabuchi fight

Remember McGuigan talking up this fight, saying this was the most dangerous man, that was not in jail ie Ike, and he was really worried for Lewis. Fight was a borefest but Tua was rubbish.
