World War II happened just over 60 years ago....the Civil War happened a lot longer ago than that.....and therefore the people affected by the Holocaust are still with us though in fewer numbers with each passing day.....I don't believe anyone specifically affected by the Civil War is still alive or even the grand children of people affected by the Civil War are alive to this day.

The economic aspects of the war were where the biggest resentment built up.....and that resentment was wrongfully taken out on blacks. The Union states wanted to have THE SAY in the US economy and cut the legs out from under the Southern states by not following passed laws such as the Fugitive Slave Act and so on.

I am not really bothered by the use of the flag in my state or my hometown...we have a large Quaker population and they are opposed to both War and Slavery as well as North Carolina didn't have a huge amount invested in the Civil War other than just trying to be at peace with it's closest neighbors....the agitators in the South....now Virginia, South Carolina, Tennesse, and Georgia didn't start the war but they didn't help matters with their actions....some people fly it some people don't, I can respect both views as my state also supplied the most troops to the Confederacy

NO it would be economic suicide as their work gave the South money and not having them would therefore deprive the South of it's good economic status at the time.

The correct thing for the Union to do would be to pay for the rights to all slaves and then pass legislation to set them free and then there is no war, there is freedom, and there are no hard feelings.....there would have been JOBS that were then availible and legal....and then if they were treated poorly the unionization of farmers and field workers would have happened and things would have been good after that.
