All this time and this is your first RBR? Well lets see if you can put your bias aside and call it clean, I'm watching you spinster. J/k here's some rep for your efforts( I bumped you up to 34 you happy now?). I got Taylor winning a decision possibly split. (I picked SD in the comp...) You could see his endurance wasnt there, and he fired Steward for his lack of prepping , I dont think he's going half-assed this time...we shall see.

Setanta coverage doesn't start till 3 which means as usual they'll probably miss one or two fights off the undercard. Up to 3 am they're showing the replay of an American college basketball game. What a bunch of fucking idiots. We need to start emailing them to sort this out.

I have beer in the fridge and food waiting to be cooked but I don't want to start too soon.

    Good luck Bilbo.

Checking the schedule it appears they are going to show for definite the Pavlik Taylor and Montiel Castillo fights. They don't mention the Mijares bout so don't hold your breath on me covering that.

If I need to sopcast any fights I won't cover them as it's just too stop start usually and I won't be able to follow what's going on.

If the Mijares fight starts and I can't cover it, hopefully someone else will step in.

Not that it matters I expect it will be a case of Mijares winnning every round any how.

I'm watching the build-up ppv show and they are showing Pavlik training with all these unconventional methods. It makes me think of Dempsey and how he used to do crazy things during training, like chewing pine tar to strengthen his jaw, and using brine to toughen up his skin. I like it when guys do these nutty unorthodox methods, it shows they are willing to go above and beyond to get that edge.

Bilbo, you'd be doing good to run TO your dog without needing an oxygen tank.

No , he went to Russia and hauled around logs and chopped down trees. In the snow knee deep. Then back in Youngstown he boxed up some sides of beef in a meat locker.

Yeah makes sense, Rocky's greatest performance came when preparing in the Russian snow.

Watchng Hearns make me nostalgic for Hitman...his right cross is even the same, dont know about power wise but he looks alot like his pops style wise, getting full range with that cross. if he grows a little goatee you would think your in a time warp.

No one else Is speaking on it so re-cap of Hearns 17-0 (13) Vs. Juan Astorga 11-1-1 (6)..............Hearns is not his Father.

At 29 he needs to really get in with some guy that will ask the tough questions.Astorga basically a gimme opponent over 3 rounds, hurt to the body in 1st and rocked hard in last round (3),Astorga not really throwing anything and contrary to what Merchant say's....Hearns Is not a good finisher.Good jab,Focused on body but these are the fights that make people go.."Oh yeh,I saw that one" Needs to do what you do to outclassed opponents at this juncture,Finish them.
Hearns leaves right extended a little and Astorga getting brave and has re found his legs in the 5th.walking to Hearns and actually catching him a few.OHHH,nice right hand drops Astorga at end of 5th,Now can Hearns come out in 6th and finish?

For those who can't see the fight.

    Ronald Hearns vs. Juan Astorga

    First Round: (10-9 Hearns)

Ronald Hearns starts out with the jab in the early part of the round. Lands some nice jabs and a few body shots. Basically a feeling out round with Juan eating jabs and unable to get inside and score.

    Second Round: (10-9 Hearns)

More jabs to the head and body shots from Ronald Hearns. He is still content to keep Juan at bay with the jab. He is pushing the action more in this round than the last.

    Third Round: (10-9 Hearns)

Ronald Hearns had Juan Astorga hurt in the third, but was unable to finish him off. He did land several big shots, but Juan was able to blunt the follow up shots from Ronald and regain his senses and make it out of the round.

    Fourth Round: (10-9 Hearns)

Ronald Hearns getting more aggresive as the fight goes on. He is coming in closer now which is giving Juan more opportunities to score, but Juan hasn't been able to take advantage.

    Fifth Round: (10-8 Hearns)

More jabs from Ronald to start the round. Juan finally finds some offense thanks in part to Ronald getting in closer. Down goes Juan and a huge counter shot from Hearns! Lucky for Juan, or unlucky depending on how you look at it, its is the last seconds of the round and he survives the round.

    Sixth Round: (10-9 Hearns)

Ronald Hearns is painting him with the jab as he has been all night. Ronald Hearns shows better defense this round, but his offensive production went down. He still landed some nice shots and easily took this round like all the others before it.

    Seventh Round: (10-9 Hearns)

Juan trying to cover up and force his way inside, uneffectivily. Since his shots are so wide when he misses he leaves himself wide open for countershots, which Ronald has taken advantage of all night. Hearns is content to paint Juan with the jab and wait for countershot opportunities.

    Eight Round: (TKO Hearns)

More of the same from Hearns with the jab. Juan still trying to force his way inside unsuccessfully. Hearns has Juan hurt again and down goes Astorga! The referee asked him if he was okay before waving it off.

    Summation:

Ronald Hearns looked good against an overmatched opponent. His height and good use of the jab makes him a tough challenge, but the few times Juan did get inside he seemed a little perplexed. Other than that good performance from Ronald.
