I thought 115-113 was the right score,it's how I had it. I don't see how anyone could have JT winning I'm afraid, draw at best. Why? Kelly Pavlik worked three minutes of 99% of that fight. Towards the end,I'd say last 3 rounds,JT was throwing much less, landing much less and more importantly,NOT using his jab. The guys that scored the fight for JT are the guys that score last minutes flurries or eye catching punches whereas Kelly was consistent.
How can you give a round to JT when he throws 10 punches in the last 30 seconds when Pavlik has been jabbing his ass off for the preceding 2minutes? Both showed improved defence,I would like to have seen Kelly go the body more though. The most anyone was in the fight was when Kelly dug that right hand in on JT to the body and JT held on.
Excellent boxing match.
Exactly. JT could have won but he didn't throw nearly enough punches. How the hell can someone say that punch stats don't matter? I thought the object of boxing was to hit the other guy more than he hits you! You can't win a fight by throwing only 30 punches a round and landing 10 of them when the other guy is 25 for 80. Kelly outworked JT, period. Jermain won some rounds by landing the bigger shots, but that only works if the rounds are very close. 2 or 3 big shots don't erase the previous 20 that you got hit with. Anyways, I thought the fight was relatively boring, compared to the first one, they were both very cautious.
Excellent points, have some rep on me. I've said it before and I'll say it again:sometimes punch stats mean nothing in a fight,on other occasions, they tell you the whole story. I think it was the latter with this fight. Kelly threw more, landed more, landed more jabs and it's not as if the punches were concentrated in 1 or 2 rounds,he was consistently outlanding Taylor. And outworking him.
I'll say it again,I don't see how anyone can give that fight to Taylor.I don't really see any convincing arguments for it either.
