I have been pretty good since January 1. For me getting to the gym on a almost daily basis and cutting out alcohol worked wonders. Even times when I was really craving one I just told myself "no" and thought how I would feel running or sparring later in the week.

My lungs did a little "house cleaning" which was pretty nasty. It's funny once they are not under the stress of breathing in carcinogens and tar daily they can focus on getting rid of all that stuff that built up. Remembering what I coughed out is enough to make me not want to start again, especially now that I feel I am pretty much in the clear.

My problem is still when I get more than a few drinks in me, wow do I want a cigarette. As a result of that I have quit having over 5-6 drinks at a given time. This was something that would have been smart for me to do anyways, but it was the desire to quit smoking that made it necessary.

Ahh Drinking and smoking are like siamese twins...LOl cant do one without the other...Thats why I gave up coffee....I have not quit yet but I am down to about 5 a day from a Pack plus....

Not all the way there but making progress....

I feel better though just with the reduction.....soon enough I will quit for good

I went from 40 cigarettes a day to none...

it was easy... how i did it i reversed the craving in my mind.

when i really wanted one bad i would step back and say fuck look what this is doing to me so the more i craved the stonger i got and hated them

    worked for me mate

lasted 4 years and i'm natrually thin but put on a shitload of weight and the strange thing was i was eating less and more active to help me and it was really hard to shift the weight... started smoking again and the weight fell off me and i'm back to my thin self again and feel great i will not stop smoking again

but if you are dedicated to stay in shape and can do that while giving up then that is the way to go mate... but for me i wasnt 100% commited to staying in shape so my cigs keep me in shape

    good luck

4 YEARS AND YOU WENT BACK!!!!!!....YOU ARE AN IDIOT!!!!!!

    (No offense Boss).......

I am doing better...I even feel better just cutting down but need to quit all together.....It will happen....To cut down I use a simular method to the one you described...but I kind of make a game of it to myself....I set times on my cell phone for the alarm to go off...abt every 5 hrs...I think about having a cig before the timer I argue with myself..look at the cig and say "Who is stronger you or that stupid ciggarette?.....Sounds silly but works to an extent.....

Crazy thing is I smoke less like that then any of the perscription methods..the patch. inhalers etc....

I am going to get that new medicine Chantex...it stops the cravings through a chemical balance in the brain...takes 1 week and each day your mind and body crave less nicotine.....til the point you have no craving and if you light up anyway you get sick from the nicotine....

The med is expensive though about $550...My sons godfather kicked the habit with it and he smoked 3 packs a day for 35years

I always hear about the benefits of quiting.

Then Saddo comes in and gives the benefits of smoking!

    Arse

What gets me is this sounds like it was a conscious decision "well...I better make myself start smoking again"

I was on Holiday and having a drink and fancied a smoke so i had one.... boy was it good

i lost well over a stone on the 2 weeks holiday and i was drinking like a fish and eating like a pig

if you are sucessful with giving up on a long time basis you will know what i mean... the only way to do it is get to the gym or do a shitload of excersise.

if you dont you will be smoking soon enough you idiot

but you will feel as fit as a fiddle

As long as you don't smoke too much, you can still be in fairly good health.

Damn, a friend of mine's birthday Friday and went to a bar and smoked like a pack, first slipup since I started but haven't had one since.
