WOW, this thread is really going the wrong way...

Guys I'm simply stating that he is holding a title which he has not defended against a mandatory in almost 2 years. Granted, I did not know Hatton was named the #1 contender at the time so that pretty much blows my argument right there.

It has nothing to do with who he has fought before. I give him all the respect for fighting DLH the first time to win another title and for defending his title against the best 140lber. This is all great stuff. I'm just wondering why I've heard nothing about the WBC demanding a mandatory or claiming to stripp Mayweather after PBF decided to take a break and then fight DLH again.

Andre Berto is the #1 WBC contender and I expect their people to demand a shot at the title some time this year. I don't want to see him fight PBF any time soon but it might be interesting to see what happends at the end of the year. Whether Floyd fights Berto or whether Floyd is stripped and Berto fights some other contender for a vacant title will add another name into the top of the Welterweight melting pot.

Well, lets hope Berto doesn't fight Floyd any time soon. He's a good prospect but he has no where near the experience to fight the likes of Mayweather... Estrada gave him trouble... Trabant was slow and tentative... He was a sitting duck for berto.

Floyd will not be stripped anytime soon. The WBC will ride the "Money Mayweather" train as long as they can.

I don't think this is accurate. Berto's handlers think he can be a future star, and as a result they are going to be very cautious not to rush him. He's still facing the Cosme Riveras and Michel Trebants of the world, he still has several stepping stones to go before he even thinks about facing someone who is a top-caliber opponent.

S'ok man I was thinking the same thing. I was thinking while I was away that when I get back on that somebody could answer this for me. I can't believe Hatton was made #1 contender. I'm a massive Hatton fan but that is a fucking joke. This thread should not be taken as a dig at Floyd, but more a dig at the WBC who I'm afraid stack up with all the other sanctioning bodies as a fucking joke. I don't care if Floyd is #1 P4P, there shouldn't be a rule for one guy that is different from the next.

That's exactly the point of this thread. Wheather or not it was the same with DLH or other big stars is irrelavent. It don't make it right. WBC, like all other sanctioning bodies should force their champions to defend their titles. At least one mandatory a year. And if Hatton was made to be Mayweather's mandatory, fine even though I don't agree with it, but that means Mayweather has to fight a Welterweight contender before the year is up or vacate the title. Given that he is facing DLH in September, I don't see this happening.

As for Berto, I think by the end of the year he will be ready to chalange any of the top Welterweights. Not saying that he will beat any of them, just saying that he has proven he can dominate at the level he is now, so he should step up to the top contender level and fight guys like Clottey, Collazo, Gomez, Judah and by the end of the year he'll be ready to face guys like Margarito, Williams, Quintana, Cintron, Mosley, etc. In 2009 he should be able to chalange for a title if not have one already.
