I believe that we are forgetting many different factors here:

    1) A fighter cannot fight a world class opponent every time. Other fighters like Miguel Cotto are proving this at the moment, so why does Ricky have to be different. He has just fought the best fighte in the world so I believe he deserves a break

    2) He has just fought at Welterweight. Ricky piled on 5 pounds of muscle mass for his last fight. Fighters like Roy Jones have demonstrated the dangder of shedding muscle mass and jumping in against the best opposition available.

    3) In the Maywether fight Hatton's ego took as much a bruising as his eyebrows did. Many fighters, following a defeat revert to a confidence builder, in which they can dominate and be made believe they are the best again. Ask Zab Judah.

    4) Finally, Lazcano will allow Ricky to make some money and regain his repuatation and respect among from fans.

    1, 2 and 3 are decent points.

    4 is silly.

Allow Ricky to make some money!?!? He just made MORE MONEY in one fight than 95% of fighters could ever dream of making in a lifetime.

Regain his reputation and respect? He'll be HUGE favourite over the inactive punchbag Lazcano. The ONLY people he will satisfy are his lovers.. who don't care who Ricky fights as long as he's bullying and bashing someone round the ring.

I thought Ricky just wanted the big name fighters from now on?

Yes but he meant for scrabble scores, Lazcano nets 68 even without any doubles, Witter only scores 9 and Torres 6.

Seriously knowing this who would you choose?

The General Public now see Hatton as a fellow who made a lot of noise before getting Knocked out by Floyd Mayweather.
In their eyes a KO win over Lazcano will be a step toward redemption.

    To ONO

Witter has a date in March?

Against who Hopkins dropped out and if Hatton offered Witter the fight im sure he'd scrap that date without hesitation

Paulie just fought his way out of a potential clash with Hatton?

He still holds a world title and has only lost one fight against one of the very best fighters around (Cotto) sure he struggled in his last fight but hes a hell of a lot more credible than Lazcano

In their eyes a KO win over Lazcano will be a step toward redemption.

sorry hitmandonny i aint buying that its like Jermaine Taylor fighting Manfredo next and knocking the s**t outta him even Taylor fans ll know its a weak choice

i think a lot of people are being to lenient on Hatton here if Mayweather would have got KOed by Hatton and come back and fought someone like Jesse Feliciano he would get slated to f**k

    I don't agree with that.
Is cotto getting flak for fighting Gomez?

Did Hopkins get much flak for fighting Wright?

If it's a totally injust fight like Oscar Forbes I see the room for criticism, but Lazcano is not bad.

For Oscar there just isnt anyone out there worth fighting (he cant fight Cotto cause he cant make 147 and it would be stupid jepordising a multimilion dollar fight) as for Hopkins v Wright, Winky is a world class operater granted it was at light heavy but the fight was worth making and it turned into a very close affair. Lazcarno is there for one reason only to get KTFO and there are plenty of fish out there for Hatton to fight.

    For Oscar?
He can make 154, at that weight there's plenty of guys!
Additionally Roy Jones, Winky Wright and even Judah have all expressed interest in fighting him at his chosen weight. Yet he picks Forbes!!!

You say there are plenty of fish out there for Hatton, but outside of Witter and Paulie, who else is there? Tores and Holt Three of the above names are world champions and one was scheduled to fight one (Holt vs world champ witter.)

Now seeing as Ricky was in need of a confidence boost who does that leave? 140 is not that deep!!!

It's not as plain sailing as you make out though.

Witter, Malignaggi and Hatton are the best of a very average bunch of fighters.

They aren't going to fight eachother until the timing is absolutely right.

They can make good money cleaning up the division between them before fighting eachother when their reputations are at their highest.

As much as we think they should be fighting eachother right now, from a business and commercial stand-point it makes much more sense for them to fight eachother when they're popularity is at its peak.

    Hatton's already has

    Witter's is getting there

    Paulie's just took a dip

Think about it....why do you think showtime did the feature on Paulie? To build his rep.

Why do you think Witter is fighting on HBO? To build is rep

The fights will all happen....just give them a bit more time.

I for one would love to see it. I'm a big hatton fan but i've also warmed to Witter after meeting him last year.

I honestly don't think he is over-keen on the fight but i still don't think he will finish his career without fighting him.

Be bullshit if he does.....but nobody knows whats round the corner. For all we know, Hatton's camp could just be playing hard ball. Who knows? I just think people should reserve judgement for now and form an opinion on it after Hatton and Witter's next fight.

    You accept Lazcano, right donny?

Look what Hatton's people say about the fight -

"if we only get 20,000 fans through the gate we'll admit we were wrong. But Ricky transcends boxing, so that isn't going to happen"

They're calling the people that accept this fight MUGS. Are they not?
