Lopez was awesome... the way he handled top prospect Jonathan Oquendo with ease. After watching the whole fight card, which was very good, I watched the Klitschko fight (which I had TVO'ed)... and promptly put myself to sleep.

Lopez has no business right now stepping in a ring with PDL. The kids got a future and if he want's to be sucessful he needs to mature his game and keep stepping up in class of opponents.
JuanMa needs to fight some of these guys before challenging for a title.
Genaro Garcia
Mike Oliver
Kiko Martinez
Fernando Beltran Jr.
I would like to see JuanMa fight Takalani Ndlovu to see how he handles a World Class opponent.
If you haven't seen much of Lopez, he has a lot going for him as a boxer:
1. He is a southpaw.
2. He has a great jab.
3. He has power in BOTH hands.
4. He has speed.
5. He has great defense/elusiveness.
6. He has an extensive amateur career.
6. He has been in there with tough guys (I compare his competition to the way Cotto was brought up, but of course, on a lesser scale).
Someone like de Leon, whose wide punches, though powerful, can be seen from a mile away, will get beaten to the punch every single time, and with Lopez's power, suffer a great deal of punishment. So Arum should just continue to raise Juanma's level of competition and keep bringing him along. He has the goods-he's no fluke!!
I've seen 14 of his 21 fights. The last 14 so I've seen plenty.
I gotta disagree on some of the words you use. I have issues when people use some words like; great, bum, robbed.
JuanMa has a good jab, Wladdy has a great jab.
JuanMa has a good jab, Jr. Jones had a great jab.
JuanMa has a good jab, Holmes had a great jab.
I still see JuanMa as a prospect. I stopped blowing smoke up boxers ass too early in their careers as I learned my lesson when I was hailing 'Panchito' Bojado as the next big thing. Believe here Rican I like JuanMa as a boxer the kids got talent but I just feel it'll be too much to soon.
I agree with you CutMeMick and i share your opinion , but Juanma with Ponce de Leon have a chance , i saw some videos fight of De Leon and he has very poor defense and slow, there both are good southpaw and hard pucher , but for me Juanma surpass him in that skills , is interesting to see what will happen in that fight like TitoFan said...

I would be scared to put ANYONE in the ring with Ponce De Leon simply because he has power that would carry 5 divisions above him.
However, Juan Manuel Lopez time to become a star has to come eventually. The guy is just to good. I haven't yet seen him and not been blown away. His main problem is that he knows he's good and sometimes he'll just walk straight forward or not create space for his punches.
2008 should be the year of JML, I thought 2007 was going to be. 122 is a stacked division but he has the potential to run right through it especially after letting Vazquez and Marquez beat the hell out of each other.
One of the most explosive fighters in all of boxing right now, I think JML is a P4P star one day.
I've been saying it for some time now. Juanma will beat Pnce de Leon. He is the future of the division.
Good/great jab, you're nitpicking. The kid has an effective jab and the skills needed to follow up on the jab unlike Klitchko, who was scared to follow the jab with his right for fear of getting hit with Sultan's quick and powerful left. See, Klitchko barely had the speed/defense to evade that left after the right, but Juanma has the speed to avoid any counter.
In addition, Juanma is 21-0 and though I wouldn't throw him in against the likes of Vazquez/Marquez just yet, against PDL, I wouldn't mind. Juanma's got to step up sometime and PDL is a beatable opponent. PDL can defeat brawlers easily enough, but against skilled boxers/counterpuchers, he has a more difficlut time.
Finally, I have seen 17 of Juanma's 21 fights, most in person in Puerto Rico, MSG, Mohegan Sun, and Chicago![]()
