I'm predicting a Cotto TKO, but I think Gomez is gonna Uuuuh! and Ahhhh! us before he goes down.
Hi my friend CutMeMick , i want to make use this moment for THANKS YOU the rep. that you gave me . We all knows that in boxing everything can happen ,but these fight it suposse to be a KO , but the other thing is that i dont think that Gomez will be a threat for Cotto , first if he fight toe to toe he going have problem because he is not a hard puncher , second i saw that Gomez is a flabby guy ; can he sustain a body punch of Cotto? . Dont misunderstand me my friend and i dont want take off credits to Gomez maybe he is good but these fight for me is too earlier for him and wrong decision , in this thread i just wanted to put some point of view that we have to think about ........

"At this point of my career all my fights are important," stressed Cotto. "I don't care if I'm the favorite or not, all I know is that I'm coming to win. I expect to train a hundred percent and I'm going out of the ring the same way I came up into the ring: as the world champion.....I had a great 2007 and I want an even better 2008."

    ------------------------------------

"I know I'll be hungrier than Cotto," stated Gomez. "Cotto has made millions of dollars in the ring. He has been a world champion for a long time. I know he has hunger, but not like mine. When I first started boxing, I visiualized myself standing at a podium like I am today, talking about fighting for a world title. Cotto is a great, strong champion. He hits very hard to the body, but I'll be more hungrier and I will beat him. I'll be announced as the world champion on April 12th!"

    -------------------------------------

Also on hand was a passionate IBF welterweight champion Kermit Cintron (29-1, 27 KOs), who is already chomping on the bit for his rematch with Antonio Margarito. "I've been waiting a long time to get my hands back on Margarito. Emanuel Steward and I are working on my game plans. Margarito gave me my only loss and I will get it back on April 12th!"
Gomez just said his dream as a kid was to be at a podium talking about fighting for a world title, nothing to do with winning it. I guess he knew his limitations even when he was little.

Before every big fight I often state that it's wrong to say that one guy has no chance.

But in reality I see Alfonso having little to no effect on the train that is about to hit him.

    I'll be rooting for Gomez.

He's up against it alright but he's got a chance.

I actually think this is going to be an ooh and ahhh kind of fight, or at least I hope it is. I really like Gomez; maybe just cause' he's the only dude from the Contender I actually liked. I will kind of be pulling for him. It'll have to be better than the Rubble/Klit fight

I don't know what it is you DON'T see in Gomez, but if he fights half the fight he did against Gatti, he could stand a good chance to outbox cotto.

Why is no one acknowledging the fact that Gomez is MUCH bigger than Cotto? So what if he doesn't hit hard... accumulation could have an effect.

What if he can take more licks than Quintana? Will he pose a threat then? I just think it is amazing that he went 10 with Ben Tackie and KO'd Gatti, but no one thinks he has a chance. As big as Cotto is, he is still smaller than alot of WW's.

Love Cotto, but would pay money to see a good upset!

Oh, BTW, Gomez has never been dominated or stopped, not even when he fought Middleweights (who are now fighting at SMwt). So what makes you all so sure Cotto will steamroll him?

Gomez has a good chance, hes big, fought bigger men, has good resiliance and decent boxing ability.

I dont think hes gonna get blown away for a second, he handled Tackie and fought with him at a good pace, he didnt dance around.

Cotto doesnt throw an awfull lot of punches, he doesnt have a busy style, he is effective but Gomez would at leat be able to outwork him if nothing else, also Cotto has been hurt by smaller men, in fact has he fought a genuine welter that didnt start in lower weights? Gomez may surprise Cotto with his strength.

As long as Gomez pushes the fight and doesnt let Cotto dictate the pace he will do well

Tackie was a decent fighter, but he's hardly exceptional.

And Cotto may well be one of the p4p hardest hitters in the game today, add that to his already impressive yet ever improving boxing skills and an unshakable will and I feel ALFONSO IS IN TROUBLE BEFORE BELL ONE.

Yes, Cotto is a hard hitter, but Gomez already fought Jesse Brinkley, who is a hellacious puncher at SuMWt--who just KO'd Otis Griffin. So he can take the punch of a natural SuMwt, but he can't take Cotto's punch?

You all are talking like Gomez is the one who is coming up in weight. Remember that besides Gatti, this might be one of Gomez' SMALLEST opponents.

I am not saying it is all Gomez, but this is a much better (and closely fitted) matchup than most are giving him credit for.

On the other side of the fence, I give Cotto credit for stepping up in size, as I am sure he knows he will have to face bigger boxers next (Margarito, Cintron, Williams, etc.). I just want to see who gets derailed in this bout.

But the fact is Gomez has to make his frame fit Welterweight now. A fighter coming down in weight can compromise his own strength and endurance.

I agree to an extent,I think Gomez is going t be tougher than some expect,I don't see Cotto rolling him over as easily as some say. I mean the guy hasn't lost and if I remember correctly,he's fought higher than 147 quite a few times right? I'm going for Cotto for sure but a UD. Gomez has that tough look about him. He's dam limited but tough, like David Diaz.

LMAO@Sweetpea and the Marg joke! I couldn't stop laughing! Anyone know why Tony wasn't there?
