    Thumbs up Too Smooth!!!!

    Matt "Too Smooth" Godfrey

By far the best in the CES stable(Missy Fiorentino best female fighter) heading out to Germany to face #2 ranked Cruiser by the WBC, Rudolf Kraj. Matt himself is ranked #1.

The fight has been named a WBC eliminator and the winner gets his shot at the title.

In seeing Matt fight in person I think he has good power and skills. I'm always happy to see fighters go on the road as I think it thickens skin. I think he'll do well in this fight and am confident that he will be fighting for the WBC strap in the near future...

    Thoughts?

I do love how you support all the lesser known fighters,

    Godfrey, Manfredo, Balleto, Spina

Nobody could ever accuse you of being a glory boy.

I haven't seen Godfrey in person, but I've seen him on some local CN8 broadcasts and maybe a FNF. He's a heck of a fighter and expect him to make some noise in the CW division this year. I hope he doesn't get screwed by the judges in Germany. It can be a hard place to take a decision. I hope he can KO the guy and take it out of their hands.

I know nothing about the guy he's fighting other than he's ranked #2 and has only 13 fights. By the look of his record, it looks like he's had better opposition than Godfrey, but you never know. He has wins in the Czech against guys with decent record, but that doesn't mean the guys were any good.

Is that fight going to available over here at all?

Godfrey's actually pretty good, I think he could do some things. Don't really know this Kraj guy though.

Godfrey is a good fighter who is making a name for himself little by little, he will be a major factor in the CW division over the next few years....Jeremy Williams caused him to have a bit of a layoff when he backed out of the fight they had together...Matt was looking forward to fighting him too...Williams talked a lot of trash about Godfrey...IMO would have been a bad night for the "Half Man Half Knocked Out" Williams....

Plus Godfrey is a nice guy who will be a good image for the sport

I agree. Personally I also was hoping Jason Estrada would become a force in the HW Div... But after his last few fights he doesn't seem to have what it takes to really make noise.

I think Jimmy Burchfield has put together a pretty respectable stable for a small time promoter... He's had guys like Paz under his flag. Manfredo has done alot for the younger fighters fighting under him on Jimmy's cards to get their names out there.

Jaimie Clampitt and Missy Fiorentino have always been fun to watch on his cards... Missy's a beast.

Kind of excited to see what happens with Angel Camacho in the next few years...

I also want to see what happens with Mesi. Now that he's licensed in RI I'll be able to see alot of him.

Matt Remillard is one of the top featherweight prospects... Good looking fighter. Met him. Nice guy.

Joey Spina... Hmmm... Not much good to say about him but that he can punch... At least against C level guys.

Balletto was under Jimmy's flag for his whole career. Crude fighter but fun to watch.

Overall CES has shaped up to be a decent draw for the New England area. I always look forward to the cards Jimmy puts on.

Yeah, Estrada is a bit of a disappointment. He can make a living, but his ceiling is probably somewhere around Dominic Guinn level. Maybe he'll be a top 20, but I can't see him ever in the top ten. I had hoped he might develop some power, but if he can't KO the C-level competition he's been facing, he's never going to be more than an decent opponent level fighter.

Manfredo might be the best known and most popular, but Godfrey is definately the class of the Birchfield stable. I don't ever expect Manfredo to where belt other than NABF or an equivanent, but Godfrey will be a legit top 5 CW for a while, and he has a chance to win a real belt. I expect him to start getting more love around here by the end of 2008.

They are local fighters with a local promoter for Pride, RP33, and me. These guys are not lesser known in to New England boxing fans. Nobody in America knew who Ricky Hatton was until he beat KT, but he was popular around Manchester as an up an comer, right?

I'd second that.. Angel looks good.. I was at the boxing gym when my friend trained and he was real helpful as far as teaching all the 'new guys' i guess you could say.. To be honest, I think he'd be better off at Middleweight cause he doesn't have a ton of power, and he may have trouble against some bigger guys, but we'll see how it pans out..

I'm hoping my sister just gives me tickets like she did last time for one of his fights.. i guess she knows Angels wife/gf? (don't even know if they're still together) but his daughter was always playing with my nephew.. either way, free tickets are always nice.

Last time i saw Balletto he said he wasn't fighting again, but boxers always say that.. and someone told me Spina was in some accident or something and not in good condition? Any truth to that?

But as far as Manfredo promoting the younger fighters, i do think he really did/will still get them some exposure.. In that sense i think being from such a small place helped them because everyone either knew, or at least heard of the other guys.

Yeah, Gary won't fight again... Ton of heart though...

Spina was supposedly fighting on the March 14th card but boxrec has nothing... Could be some truth to it.

Yeah, Angel seems cool. Saw him down there last time I was on The Hill grabbing a sandwich at Roma Gormet.

I know Pride is or was from Rhode Island, I'm just teasing him. It's good to support local fighters

I've only seen Godfrey once and it was against Cora Jr. he handled the southpaw easily and looked impressive. This Kraj guy hasnt fought the better competition IMO, and although he won a silver in the Olympic's this has to be his toughest fight to date. I think Godfrey has some balls going over to Germany for this fight, gotta give him credit for that. I heard he's been having trouble getting fights recently with Cunningham opting to fight Huck recently and Williams pulling out of their fight, so gotta like his willingness to mix it up with the top guys.
