This is the first real guy this overrated champ has faced. Kessler and Manfredo....come on. He is in his late 30's and he has never faced Jones Jr, he has never faced Hopkins or Wright. He is the most cushioned champ in the ring right now.
I totally agree. About time someone said it. Im sorry but for a guy who fought in the era of jones, toney, and hopkins he found a way to not fight any of them and i cant excuse that. He might beat hopkins and thats a big if but its honestly too late for it to matter.
Step up so I can put you down

and why do you agree with him?
explain this one... tells us how joe didn't find a way to fight hopkins when his and hopkins promo's agreed a price? or how he was meant to move to cruiser and fight toney?
toney wasn't close to joes weight class when he was making a name for him self.

Tell me do you think it is total coinsidence that Clazaghe has fought mainly in the uk , and hasnt fought any of the following in 10 years -
Roy Jones , James Toney , Benard Hopkins , do you believe and this is a question - that if he had really wanted those matches when they were in a prime , that he couldnt have got them?
eg. dropping the WBO JOKE title and getting to number 1 contender in which ever orginisation they were affiliated with?
Fact is Joe has talent but beating a 43 year old Hopkins isnt going to make him great , his best years have gone , a record of 42 wins 3 defeats and having mixed with the best , is better than 46 wins no defeats and didnt mix with the best.
I know you love him in Wales which is fine, but personally i just dont buy it , and his promoter Warren is a joke to .
I truely believe Hopkins has nothing to loose , if he wins he is laughing and if he looses then people will bring up the age thing.
Calzaghe has made no effort to move to a more glamerous division like LHW , or made enough effort to chase the career defining fights , if you dont agree with me then thats ok , but i know there will be a few on here who do agree with me.

Bernard turned the fight down years ago which was a pity. He didn't want to fight in Wales which is fair enough but it is credit to Joe that he is going to Bernards backyard to fight.
Joe was the Super Middleweight king yet Hopkins moved up from Middleweight and bypassed calzaghe. I think he knew even then that joe was too good for him.
As for Roy Jones - in his prime he would have beaten Joe but he recently admitted he had no reason to fight JC back in the days.
Joe ain't avoided anyone - he was just seen as too big a risk for little reward in the past by people like Roy and Bhop.

So to fight hopkins he was meant to drop his belt and move down to middleweight even tho making SMW was a task in it's self? hopkins could of had the calzaghe fight, this topic is just annyoing facts are facts and its a fact hopkins turned downa career high payday to fight joe in the states so quit talking crap.
Jones said HIM SELF calzaghe was to high risk for the gain he would have of beating him...
wtf are you on about toney for, he was fighting for his cruiserweight before joe had even beaten eubank, shit do you know anything or do you just take what the rest of the idiots post as gospal?
get your own opinion by doing your own reasearch, i'm all up for a good debate and all but when people who don't know their ass from their elbow spout complete crap that are clueless about because they don;t like a fighter just pisses me off.
seanie done it about hopkins and you do it about calzaghe.
One of the biggest reasons calzaghe hasn';t had the big fights up untill now is lack of Hbo exposuer, they provide the money most of the time ot make the big fights.
At one point they wanted ot build him up to beat the then king RJJ. his fight with Reid detered them because it was ugly, had ot fight with one hand for most of it and ended in a bs SD. He started putting on some good shows and got their interest again, but great timing for him the decided to air a fight of him when he was going through his divorce and wasn;t him self, and basicaly lost all interest untill he destroyed lacy.
Maybe if he had more luck and they kept interest he could of had the jones fight, maybe if hopkins would kept to his word after the trinidad fight he would of been where he is now in 2001

It ain't just Jones, Toney and Hopkins. Calzaghe also couldn't make a fight with Sven Ottke (Calzaghe refused to fight him in Germany, but for some reason went there to fight a lesser fight in Mario Veit). He refused to rematch Robin Reid even though there first fight was closed. And he straight punked out against Glen Johnson 3 times.
i have to disagree, if hopkins retired he wouldnt have accomplished gols that he accomplished after losing to taylor

I will admit that i am not a fan of Hopkins style but he has achieved plenty,
his resume is solid and although as you say he fought a lot of beefed up Welterweights he still beat them all! He is 43 yrs old and i don't think he has any chance against Joe Balls at all. His comeback wins against Tarver and Winky were superb efforts and he is not a bum. This fight will see the end of him but credit where credit is due and Joe balls has a way to go to receive a lot of that!

I don't know why I opened up this thread due to it's ridiculous title. I think Clazaghe will win, but it will be close. And if anyone thinks Hopkins is overrated and bum, you don't know the sport.
