He's a real good defensive coach but he has had a string of bad luck since his big wins with Tarver and Brewster. With that being said, his next big guy could be his own son who looks very solid.

Actually I think Gatti is who put him on the map. He revamped his style and got him to box a little. Which probably lengthened his career by 5 years or so. That being said, I have always questioned his strategy. Especially against PBF. It was criminal in my opinion to try to get Gatti to outbox PBF. Dumbest strategy ever....

That's true.....he is forever stopping fights. It's all well and good that he loves his fighters and all but you cannot ALWAYS do that

Well I won't speak on McGirt as far as his success with all his fighters, but Jason Litzau would have lost that fight with Guerrero even if GOD was in his corner

Buddy isn't the worst trainer but maybe a little overrated. a lot of his fighters do lose. IMO he trains to many fighters. How many times have you seen Buddy train the fighter on the undercard and main event. ive been saying this for years.

Are you kidding? That was the best possible strategy for Gatti. If he'd come in trying to brawl he would have been kayoed in half the time. McGirt didn't want him to take the fight and knew there was no hope however he decided to fight PBF. At least by boxing he was able to last a while.

so true and very strange considering he's one of boxings great tacticians. his fight against simon brown was one of the great schoolings. i would've loved to have seen him fight chavez, but like many other potential great chavez fights, it never happened.

i never saw the meldrick taylor-mcgirt fight, and it doesn't get much press. what happened in that one? was it a good fight?

I seriously disagree. Gatti's best chance was to land a great power shot and hurt PBF. His best chance was to make it a rough fight. As is anyone's best chance against PBF. PBF is known as a fast slick boxer and you're saying Gatti's best chance was to outbox him? No way that would happen, it is possible for Gatti to land the perfect shot on his chin and put him to sleep.

If your strategy is to make it last the longest, he should have done a Ruiz and hugged him to death. He's supposed to come up with a strategy that gives your fighter the best chance to win, then it's up to the fighter to implement it. Taking into account what your fighters strengths are, I stick to my opinion that it was criminal to expect Gatti to outbox PBF. The results speak for themselves.

If he would have went in "bombs away" the result may have been the same, but he also probably would have had a scary moment or 2 for PBF. As it stands he didn't do anything to speak of....
