Except for once or twice(the 70's and 90's) the heavyweight division has been dominated by one true heavyweight while the rest of the division was substantially below them in class or size. Upon further review I think that Klitschko would have done fine against a ton of fighters back in the day... he is fast, he's so strong, and big that the little guys who couldn't make 200 pounds in wet clothes and needed a stool to be 6' tall wouldn't hit him cleanly in 20 rounds.
When Liston was ruilng the division he was KO opponents in exciting fashion, when Holmes was ruling the division he would take risks and risk getting KO to finish his opponent's in exciting fashion. When Tyson was ruiling the division he would KO his opponents in impressive fashion. Do you see what im getting at here ?? even if thhose era's wern't the strongest Liston, Holmes, Tyson, would take risks to be great unlike Wlad IMO, the Heavyweight division isn't as popular because except for Wlad who is far too cautious and looks to be terrified of getting hit IMO, most of the Heavyweights skill level wise are piss poor and 95 percent of the fights are terrible and sloppy affairs. And Taeth no offence but you mentioned Peter, Valuev, in the same sentence as being *talented*. No offence but are you kidding me ?? Valuev is horrible and only ever got anywhere by being a freak of nature, he got gift decision's against John Ruiz, Larry Donald, for crying out loud. Peter is one dimensional and his defense is terrible and his punches are so wide and sloppy. He got a gift decision against a natural Super Middleweight, that just shows you what kind of skill level Peter is at. Like i said earlier the only real skilled Heavyweight out there is Wladimir Klitschko and he is far too cautious and he clinches like an octopus. You say Holmes and Liston era's were horrible, but i'll tell you something now i would pick those eras over the load of rubbish we got now any day of the week.

My point exactly but I figured everyone would know that without having top go into depth....Seems Taeth is the only one who had to make an arguement and go off track...as usual

problem i find with this batch of heavys is that there mostly fat........... they mostly have soft builds, theres no real athlets................ they mostly look like the big guy in the local pub, as a result there slow and sluggish and lack stamina

its about time heavyweights look like they train

When did I mention Valuev as one of the good fighters today? Also Foreman threw wide punches and had no defense, same with Marciano, Shavers, early Frazier, Joe Louis sure got hit a whole lot. PEter's doesn't have the worst defense in the world, he is immensely strong, he has a good beard, and he would have given many of the old school heavyweights a tough fight if he didn't come in weighing 250 pounds. Also he schooled TOney in the second fight, and once against Toney is a tough mother fucker who any mauler would have had trouble with.

As for exciting... Tyson dispached of wannabe heavyweight in an exciting manner, against Mitch Green, QUick Tillis it was boring as fuck because it was so easy to wrap him up that Tyson could hardly get anything off. Lennox Lewis, Holmes, Ali all at some point coasted through whole fights. What I am saying is that Peter is talented, you could see his boxing skills against Toney in the second fight, you see the handspeed before he gets tired, you see his power, strength, you saw his chin when he was taking the best Wladimir had to offer, not sure what happened against McCline(who is a beast himself), and I am saying that Wladimir took out plenty of opponents in an exciting fashion and he has a terrific KO%.

Would Wladimir beat Ali, Lewis? Of course not, but he would give them a tough fight before they landed a clean shot on him (ALi-Wladimir=Leonard-Hearns of the heavywieghts). As for now he has a good reason to be scared of getting hit because he's gased out, and he's been KO'ed by big punchers, but at least he's not Audley Harrison.

Taeth Sam Peter would have been easy prey for Liston, Frazier, Shavers and perhaps even Marciano
And Toney hasn't gotten too slow to ever be ranked as even a good heavyweight.

    You said it here.

What I am saying is that the heavyweight division has plenty of talented guys now in Klitschko, Peter, Valuev, Ibrigamov,
