could you be more specific?
Training for max strength/endurance?
well from waht i hear. 1-5 is max strength. 8-12 is "optimal for muscular hypertrophy strength and endurance" and after that is just endurance?
so i was wondering what would be ideal for boxers. optimal or endurance?
do you gain little mass after 12?
my friend whose a wrestler says he does 8-12
and i've also heard to go until failure.
Your talking about pushups/chinups right?
For pushups theres a variety of ways which i like to do, 10 to 1's, where you do two variations of pushups (knuckle ad wide). You start at 10 of each and decrease by one after each set. Trying to do it as quickly as possible. That's pretty intense.
Tabata sets, 20 seconds of maximum effort followed by 10 seconds of rest, do this 8 times. Trust me that gets very intense.
Another favourite of mine is at the start of the week doing pushups to failure on say the sunday, just do one set and see how many you can do. Now for monday take 10 off that amount and do 3-5 sets, the next day (or every second) add an extra 5 pushups per set. The next sunday see how many you can do till failure. I do this every now and again, don't do it too often as i found it really tired me out.
Hope this helps, but try not to go till failure too often as it can cause damage, rather than be benefitial.
