Miranda has a big name and still decent hype in the USA.
To most American boxing fans, he has one loss againt Pavlik. I truly think he looked like shit before he even got into the ring. Most here believe he got jobbed in Germany. He also soundly beat Allan Green, a true 168lbs fighter.
IMO Miranda has plenty of credintials to have earned this fight. Epecially against a guy who is coming off a loss.
Yeah but Kessler is coming off a loss to the number one super middleweight in the world which keeps him still in the place. And he was the number one super middleweight when they fought. Miranda's loss is from Pavlik who wasnt the number one middleweight in the world, and who people favored Miranda to beat. You can't compare coming off that kind of loss. Kessler is coming off a loss but it was to the number one super middleweight in the world and it wasnt a massacre so Kessler really doesnt have to "bounce back" so to say. Get what I mean?
But why is fighting Miranda such a 'bounce back' fight? Edison put in his time after the brutal loss and looked good against his 2 fights. Now he is deserving of a big fight.
Kessler main goal is to get a big fight in the USA. Who better than Miranda? Taylor wont fight him right now. And to most of you blind fansMiranda is an easily beatable opponent.
You shouldn't be talking about "whats the better fight stateside" You should be asking who deserves the shot more. And Miranda hasn't done anything at super middleweight to merit a shot at Kessler. If Miranda beats someone like Mundine I'll be all for it.
I'm not in it for "who is the better fight stateside" all that leads is to big "money" fights that are utterly useless to the division. It's thinking that way that keeps fighters like Casamayor on the wayside and good fighters taking a back seat to exciting ones. I'd rather have a fighter earn his shot instead of having a spectacular KO and automatically thrown into the big big picture in a division. But maybe that's just me. But Miranda hasn't earned a shot yet so he shouldnt get one.
Unfortunately for a guy like Miranda it takes TV to force a fight for him. He is willing to face anyone, but none of the top guys will get into the ring with him. HBO wants Kessler. Hopefully, if he turns it down, they will start going down the list. Without HBO (or SHO), Miranda wont be fighting anytime soon.
And the stateside comment is coming as a result of what the Kessler camp wants: a big fight in the USA.
