Maybe one way to solve this, I know the Thank You tried to address it (even though I don't even think it's a problem), is in addition to counting reputation points, count the number of times someone has been repped.
Kind of like a U.S. government checks and balances thing. Make 2 houses of reps. One where the Reputation points are like the House, based on the punching power of the person who reps you and one like the senate, where no matter the punch power, everyone's rep counts the same.
So say I rep you my full 21. You get 21 rep points and then there is a separate tally somewhere that just counts the 1 click I gave you. Don't know if that is possible but it seems like it could work. That way, you're still repping someone, the punch power still matters but the numbers don't get to inflated or if they do get inflated, you can still see who has the most overall clicks in addition to rep points.
I just don't see why we have different punch powers at all
I mean presumably by giving a higher punch power to users with higher rep then Saddo is acknowleding that veteran posters should have more status on the board..........
BUT with this new system precisely because of the punch power a veterans status is completely meaningless as it will be progessively easier to earn rep.
Right now its not too noticeable but by Christmas the most popular posters will have individual punch powers into the thousands and just a few months after that into the millions!
You're 1000 rep points that you earned in two years can already be earned in a single week here now and by Christmas people be earning uptp 10,000 rep points per day
Its the worst idea ever doomed to complete and total failure unless it gets changed
Actually looking again at Saddo's post he says he will cap the maximum punch power at 100. This prevents the wildly escalating punch power problem but just means that sooner or later, probably by May EVERYBODY will have capped out at the 100 limit, which kind of begs the question why have a variable punch rate at all?
So in the longterm what we will likely have is a rep system where a user can select from 1-100 points to give to another poster based on how much they like their posting.
Which is ok I guess but a rep point seems a lot simpler and fairer meaning people cant band together and high click each other to get up the rankings quickly.

I have no problem with punch powers, not having punch power would be essentially the same system as the CC/SC system. Personally I don't really care much but if you think in the even longer run, hopefully I'll be getting reps in the future to which will still have me ahead of the newbies because I'll be gaining rep just as they will. If you're worried about the number of individual rep clicks, I think just telling us that number (which I assume can be done) would solve that gripe right?
No because unless Saddo caps it they would escalate faster and faster.
In the post above he says he plans to cap it to 100 so by May probably we will all have reached that pretty much, at least regular posters anyway.
But you wont stay ahead of the newbies if you take time off. I can already give someone 63 rep points per punch. That's more than doubled in just over a month.
Within another monther at the same rate it willl 126, a month later 246 and so on.
I'm not complaining or moaning because at the end of the day I know Saddo will have a plan. We are just going through a temporal teething process.
I just wish he'd explain what the eventual system will be!
But I guess like God and Big Brother Saddo is the boss and will tell us when he's good and ready![]()
Don't think Saddo's will have a problem with people banding together to climb up the rep ladder. Until then, just stage your own personal revolution and only give 1 point per rep. Easy enough.
what the hell is those green +'s next to some of your names![]()
