    Default Cotto vs Mayorga?

Maybe this is old news but I was just perusing Yahoo sports and it had a Cotto vs Mayorga fight slated for July 19. What happened to Cotto vs Margarito?

Thw winner of Cotto/Gomez will face the winner of Margatito/Cintron in the summer. Mayorga said loudly that he is interested in fighting Cotto in the next available date and but Arum said that if the winner of Cintron/Margarito gets injured he will let Mayorga know that he can fight.

I'd love to see Mayorga vs Cotto, that would be a barnburner whilst it lasted.

I really want Mayorga to win his next fight though and making it 3 out of 3 against Forrest would be simply beautiful

Well there's no chance in hell Cotto knocks out Mayorga. But I think he may outbox him but people are gonna use the torres fight for reference. And Mayorga at 147 is scary if he can make that weight.

Actually at 147 i wouldnt have minded seeing forrest vs Cotto

I got to be honest I reckon Cotto would stop Mayorga in the late rounds.

Trinidad and Oscar both blasted him out of there and I really think Cotto is as good as those guys.

Mayorga would make it one hell of a brawl though. I just think his machismo pride, his cigarettes and his lack of defense would mean Cotto would catch up with him eventually.

I'd love to be proved wrong though.

Boxing needs a champion like Mayorga, articulate, humble and gracious

Mayorga Cotto could potentially be a Welterweight version of Torres Cotto.

A fight like that would truely onfirm how much Cotto has grown since abandoning 140 and how much his chin has improved.

Call me crazy but IMO this is a bad career choice for Cotto....Sure Cotto has improved and is a hell of a fighter...Mayorga is getting old and has not had a great track record against guys like Trinidad and DLH but...Those guys are not only strong but excellent boxers..plus it was at 154/160...Mayorga is DAMN!!! dangerous at 147 and I put it in caps for that reason...he can be outboxed but hard to out slug him...Mayorga can box when he wants to....IMO Cotto has not yet become that good of a boxer to really outclass Mayorga in that catagory...and power wise..Mayorga at 147 IMO hits harder then Cotto......Not saying Mayorga will beat Cotto not saying he will lose...Just that it is a fight that Cotto does not need to take and at this point the risk is too much....

I dunno, I just saw the recast of Forrest v. Piccirilo last night. I think Forrest would quite possibly eat Mayorga alive. He's full-fledged at 154 now, power and everything, and the speed he displayed in that fight I think would be too much for Mayorga to handle. That being said, Forrest has finally risen in my estimation. I would love to see the fight happen.

I have to agree with Daxx about Cotto not fighting Mayorga. Too little risk, too little reward. Mayorga is a spoiler. He hits hard enough to take anyone out and his rep rests mostly on his mouth and not what he can do in a ring. Cotto would lose more than the bout if Mayorga put him down for a ten count.

If Cotto fights Mayorga at 147, Mayorga will be severely weight drained IMO. I think Cotto wins a late stoppage or decision. But this could easily be a fight where I wouldn't be shocked if I woke up on Sunday and found out that Mayorga knocked Cotto out. Mayorga might be a joke during promotion but when he's in the ring, he's capable of competing with anybody.

I agree, I think Forrest has looked very good in his last two fights, shown much better form than Mayorga has since they fought, Forrest seems to have more upside at this point with his shoulder having healed. I just don't see what Mayorga beating Vargas by close decision at 162 is supposed to mean... Doesn't tell me anything other than they are both shot.. Mayorga didn't look good I didn't think, just had a total corpse in front of him.
