When they started the show all they knew was they had an entertaining show with a lot of freedom.
They probably knew the ending, but they were given six seasons or so to fill up with whatever random watchable gunk they could.

I still think Hurley's immense obesity problem is the real mystery.

I mean he's stranded on a desert island! And he still gets bigger every episode!

There's definitely something going on there.

I reckon Jacob lives inside him, or maybe Ben and Saaed hide themselves inside him to get back to the mainland undetected

they havent been there that long and they ave access to food
if anything lack of food would increase his weight at first anyway
as if you dont eat a regulary your body will store a majority of any food you do eat as fat to save for a later time as it does not no when thenext meal will be coming.so ur metabolisim slows down
this is 1 of the reasons u shouldn't skip breakfast!!
