Carl Froch is not on Calzaghes radar for obvious reasons. Calzaghe will beat Hopkins and most likely pursue a further big money fight before retiring. Froch is a limited regional fighter who should really not be mentioned as a career closer.
Even a rematch with Bika sounds more preferable![]()
Actually i would have liked Calzaghe to have fought Froch instead of Manfredo. But its too late now Calzaghe is moving up and has bigger fish to fry.
Interesting Eubank comparison. Eubank took just less than £100 000 to fight Nigel Benn, a small fraction of the purse. He was happy to get stiffed over money because it gave him a shot at the then big name in British boxing. His win gave him instant credibility and a huge fanbase, even attracting fans like me who had wanted Benn to take his head off when they fought. The Benn victory ended up earning him millions.
Carl Froch has had similar offers from Frank Warren to fight Calzaghe. If he really thought he could win he'd take any offer going for the same reasons Eubank agreed to fight Benn, or like Junior Witter is desperate to do against Hatton. They've all been turned down because Froch doesn't think he can win. Froch is just waiting for Calzaghe to retire which is why he's a 31-year-old prospect whose last fight was at British title level against a 37-year-old ex-porn actor.
Good point ICB about Joe fighting Froch rather then Bumfredo...hindsight that is a 500% increase in credibilaty for a defence...On Joe fighting Froch now? What does Froch bring to the table..nothing. After beating Kessler he'd be mad to take such a huge stepback and it's a lose lose situation..He wins..so what Froch's "a bum" is what will be said "over-rated" is what we'll hear. He get's old over night and loses..people will still call froch a bum and Joe's legacy will be in tatters...definate no-go.
