I would almost go the other way.. Once you've got yourself a little fitter and in the full swing of exercising.. Try for a month or so to put on muscle, then lose the weight but trying to keep the muscle on..
I've found my body always wants to stay at the same weight as well over the years... So if you can put a little more muscle on your body, when you settle back to that weight, it'll consist of more muscle and less fat...
Your average diet seems to keep you at that weight with "flabby tits and muffin tops", but if you add a little more muscle, it'll help burn the fat, use more of your calorie intake etc..
