If Hatton really said that then it was a somewhat trite and petty thing to say. I dont really rate Witter all that highly and think Hatton would beat Witter quite easily. Maybe Hatton is trying to whet the appetite of the screaming multitudes who are so tantalised about the prospects of a potential Hatton: Witter bout. Dunno.

I don't know how revealing that story would actually make Hatton look better, all it proves is that unlike many fighters Witter has the confidence to say what he intends to do to his opponents face, and not just a show up for the cameras. One of these fighters is genuinely an 'anyone, anytime, anywhere' fighter, while the other tries to convince the world that he is too, and failing miserably.

Good point Bomp. Witter is just doing what we want him to do, try and make the damn fight.

Hatton is just a commerical enterprise right now. He wants the mega money event's even though he know he'll lose. He likes to appear on Question of Sport and enjoy his tv appearances.

It wouldn't suprise me if he brought out his own range of T-Shirts, maybe even a grill or a toasted sandwhich maker.

His career is practically irelevent now, let him fight Laun Lazcano and then get his ass beat by Floyd again for some cash.

The he go get his coveted IBO crown back from whichever D lister holds it at that time and retire as a British great.

I don't believe that Hatton thinks he can't win the fight, but I think he does realize it will be tough to beat Witter. I think Hatton would rather someone come along and beat Witter first and then say "See, I told you he wasn't worthy" or just wait until Witter gets really old and then try to beat him.

Hatton claims that he's just another one of the guys and he's a nice guy. But I think he was believing a little too much in his own hype when he fought Floyd and getting knocked out like that has fucked up his psyche. Just some of Hatton's quotes since the Mayweather fight lead me to believe that he's every bit the ego maniac that Floyd is. It's just Floyd goes about it in a much more brash and public manner, oh yeah, and Floyd hasn't been KTFO before.

Why should Hatton fight Witter ? He doesn't need to fight him. Hatton needs to be chasing a big money rematch with Mayweather. When Witter fights and beats a genuine top boxer than maybe he can start spouting off.

I thought I was the only one who actually wouldnt mind seeing a Mayweather rematch! Everything indicates Floyd would do the same but we have strange thoughts sometimes.

I heard Hatton say this today on boxing scene:

"If Junior Witter was fighting in my backyard, I'd close the curtains"

Some of the stuff Hatton comes out with is Priceless

Witter needs Hatton, Hatton doesn't need Witter. Hatton has proven he's the number 1 at 140 pounds.

This is how big Hatton is:

Ricky Hatton is a bigger box office draw than Goldenballs David Beckham | The Sun |HomePage|Sport|Boxing

Hatton is the biggest ticket seller in the world FACT.

Great for Ricky Hatton. But the fact of the matter is that I personally think Ricky Hatton's career is coming to an end because he's not going to be able to make 140 comfortably anymore with his ridiculousy unprofessional weight ballooning and he's probably too small for 147. He's getting older and he's getting to that age (30) where his body will make it harder and harder for him to lose weight. He might be the biggest ticket seller in the world but he better start eating right, keeping a better weight, chill out with his widely reported drinking binges, and live life better 12 months out of the year because it only takes a couple losses for people not to give a crap about you anymore. You don't see Joe Calzaghe ballooning up to 200 pounds do you? Hatton in between fights probably weighs like 15 pounds more than JoeCal does

Hatton IMO will become the next Fernando Vargas. A boxer with great talent and star quality who simply couldn't take his career seriously enough to stay in reasonable shape year-round.

IMO Junior Witter is the only guy at 140lb that is worth fighting at the moment. It doesnt matter how big Hatton is (how many gulable fans ll pay to watch him beat up bums) the fact is Hattons carrer is done and dusted. He cant go up to 147lb as he cant handle the weight and the 140lb division is full of nobodys Witter is the only guy out there besides Paulie that Hatton can build his rep up with. What is the point in a PBF rematch Hatton got KTFO simple as that. Sure he makes money but the result aint gonna change one bit.

Hatton is still a one dimentional brawler and no matter what he does he aint gonna beat PBF. The reason he wont fight Witter is because he is a big threat Witter has power, speed and an awkward style that will give Hatton fits. If Witter were to stay right in Hattons face and not allow him the room to get his shots off like PBF did then Hatton would be in big trouble.

Don't ya get it, Hatton just has a genuine dislike for the guy....Hatton has also achieved all that Witter hasn't, Hatton is still loved massive in the eyes of the Britts, and, as has been said ... Witter needs Hatton for the dough, who else could Witter make big bucks off out there other than Hatton...Hatton has absolutely no fear of Witter what so ever...he just don't want him getting rich of he's name...

How come when a fighter talks tough and calls out another he is lauded and respected (a la Ricky calling out Floyd), but when Witter calls out Hatton all sorts of negative comments are hurled his way?

How can Witter fight a genuine top boxer if the man rated one place in front of him at No.1 in his division, the Witter-dodger, is shit scared to face him?

Hatton is playing this one smart I must admit. Hatton's plan is to be recognized as the #1 guy in his division, make a ton of money, and take the least amount of threat. It's a method that every boxing champion (or champion's promoter) has pretty much used. You don't see any champion taking nothing but tough tests for the rest of their career. Hatton's ranked #1 @ 140 by Ring and pretty much all pundits for his 2005 stoppage of Tszyu. Since then he's remained #1 in the division without really fighting anybody kinda like Mayweather @ 147. The difference is that Mayweather hasn't lost and Mayweather beat the "champion" Baldomir in late 2006. Hatton beat Tszyu in the summer of 2005. It's been almost three years and this guy has been eating off of Tszyus name and he hasn't beaten anybody since. Maussa is garbage (look what Vic Ortiz did to him), Urango was only a half-decent win, and Castillo was shot (I don't think anybody is debating that). Now Hatton is looking to fight Paulie, who will be a tough challenge, but not as tough as Witter because he doesn't have ANY power. And if Hatton wins, he's got a major belt and he re-establishes himself as the king of 140 and is back to making huge paydays. Meanwhile, Witter's screwed. Checkmate.

I've never really cared much about this fight, still don't but if Hatton's just not gonna fight him, for whatever reason, then why not just shut about it and ignore him instead of offering up these horrible excuses?

I dont understand why Hatton wouldnt want to fight the #2 ranked 140lber in the world

Maybe he plans on following thru with his promise to rematch Luis Colazzo. Thats what he told Luis, Larry Merchant and the whole world, or maybe he is a squelcher who dosent live up to his commitments like some of his fans.
