Hatton is playing this one smart I must admit. Hatton's plan is to be recognized as the #1 guy in his division, make a ton of money, and take the least amount of threat. It's a method that every boxing champion (or champion's promoter) has pretty much used. You don't see any champion taking nothing but tough tests for the rest of their career. Hatton's ranked #1 @ 140 by Ring and pretty much all pundits for his 2005 stoppage of Tszyu. Since then he's remained #1 in the division without really fighting anybody kinda like Mayweather @ 147. The difference is that Mayweather hasn't lost and Mayweather beat the "champion" Baldomir in late 2006. Hatton beat Tszyu in the summer of 2005. It's been almost three years and this guy has been eating off of Tszyus name and he hasn't beaten anybody since. Maussa is garbage (look what Vic Ortiz did to him), Urango was only a half-decent win, and Castillo was shot (I don't think anybody is debating that). Now Hatton is looking to fight Paulie, who will be a tough challenge, but not as tough as Witter because he doesn't have ANY power. And if Hatton wins, he's got a major belt and he re-establishes himself as the king of 140 and is back to making huge paydays. Meanwhile, Witter's screwed. Checkmate.
I've never really cared much about this fight, still don't but if Hatton's just not gonna fight him, for whatever reason, then why not just shut about it and ignore him instead of offering up these horrible excuses?
I dont understand why Hatton wouldnt want to fight the #2 ranked 140lber in the world
Maybe he plans on following thru with his promise to rematch Luis Colazzo. Thats what he told Luis, Larry Merchant and the whole world, or maybe he is a squelcher who dosent live up to his commitments like some of his fans.![]()
Why would Hatton be scared of him when he's fought the likes of Tysu (sp), Castillio and Mayweather ? Boxing is about buisness and Hatton doesn't need Witter when there's a potential rematch with Mayweather on the table. If Witter beat someone like Maganalli or fought Castillio (if he would consider it) then I would say he deserves a shot. Maganalli is more deserving of a Hatton fight than Witter. One win over Harris is the only thing that stands out on his record. Witter needs to forget Hatton and start chalking up wins over other contenders around him or even take a fight at 147 so it's virtually impossible for Hatton to ignore him. If Witter was add another couple of belts to his collection then Hatton would have to fight him.
Another lame excuse from Hatton this is getting ridiculous now.
