    Default Stress

    Heya fellas,

I'm under a lot of stress lately.
There's work, home, training, college, social and personal demands on me and they're just piling.

As I cope with one task it seems I'm neglecting another and there are people from each field reminding me of my neglect each time.
What ends up happening is my juggling of all tasks, not finishing any to my potential and yet being absolutley exhausted afterwards.

It's come to the point where my head throbs and I actually get a physical pain in my neck shoulders and back likes there's a weight on me.
I'm tired out and sleeping is freaking hard, as thoughts are still racing through my head as I try to sleep. Leaving me more tired for the next morning.

So people, what do you do to relieve or cope with extreme stress?

    Valium.

    ->

Nah I seperate myself from my thoughts by watching them closely to the extent that they are like clouds passing me by.
This eventually stops them from running me and I run them.
As soon as you watch a thought you are seperate from it.

At the end of the day Bro when your dead and gone you IN tray will still be full.

Try to think about what you had as a worry a few weeks ago ,a few months ago or last year or whenever and you'll come to the realization that they all worked out anyway!

All the stress and worry was you torturing yourself for no reason other than your own or other peoples expectations of you and you bowing to their thoughts (which run them ).

Time aknowlegement creates stress too. there is no yesterday no past it is gone and done.

There is no real future either as your point of power is only in this moment; (sh!t its gone ), doesnt matter theres another one..

So if you worry about the past or the future you are ripping yourself off of the total energy that is you right NOW. That is tiring in its self, without the spill over it eventually creates in you.

Belive that and you can work in the zone at any given moment and you'lll achieve more than what you can plan to.

    I can explain it.

Andre is right OR learn to say no without feeling guilty that you're letting someone down. Don't want to sound all Oprah with you but you and your time are important to. If you need to cut back on your social life because of work/college your mates should understand that.

Sorry to hear that its all getting to you fella.

There has been some very good advice given already. Im the king of the stressheads so probably shouldnt be the one to be advising people. But, you should definitely just try to balance things and if that means saying no sometimes then you've got to do that. Its your life and you cant do all things at once. Maybe try to make a plan of what you need to do and try and schedule your time.

Sleep is the bugger that gets me and Ive really no idea there. I just never want to go to sleep and then when it comes to waking up...well, I just dont want to get up!! Medication is always an option if it becomes too bad but that is just a temporary solution. These days I just try a little light reading for 30 minutes or so. Sometimes I do mange to doze of, but other times Im still awake 1 hour later thinking "Bugger this!". Ive heard camomile tea helps with sleep but Ive found this just makes me need the bathroom.

Anyway, I hope you manage to sort it all out.

    I find booze helps.

If not then listen to Andre's advice

What you have to KNOW is this lunatic asylum called earth has been here for 4.5 billion years (so i'm told). Currently there is roughly 6.5 billion people on it. Virtually every single one will be gone within 100 years.

You have nothing to worry about.

Hey man, it sounds like you might just be spreading yourself too thin. If you don't have time to do something, just tell the people "no". They'll understand, and if they don't, well, fuck 'em.
I know my girlfriend often has problems similar to yours and it's because she's always trying to do 500 things at once, and taking on way more than she can successfully handle without it affecting her in a negative way.

I have found things easier to juggle by making use of small amounts of time. So far I've only managed to get this happening with house work but it'd be great to do it a bit with study too.

For example if i do the dishes every time I eat instead of letting them pile up it's no biggie. I'll often put a load of washing on at night and hang it our quickly first thing in the morning or just before I go to bed.

Little habits like that have helped me free up time on my weekends which used to be more than half filled with domestic crap.

I know what you mean though. I'm getting more stubborn about what people can realistically expect from me and what I should have to give up to please them. My PhD supervisor thinks I should be working a minimum of 60 hours a week and is constantly demanding to know what i'm doing training wise.

I just decided 9 to 5 week days and the occasional extra bit on the weekend is all I'm prepared to do. Research into work productivity doesn't advocate longer hours. My supervisor doesn't produce wonderful work and he doesn't work the hours he would expect me to. Sometimes people demand more from you just to make up for where they are lacking themselves. Like Andre said they just pass the buck and you have to decide at some stage to look after your health by limiting that.

I try to just enjoy my sport purely for that time and let it help me destress now. Before I used to be constantly thinking about what else I could be catching up on and that stopped me from enjoying it. Now I've just decided it's my right - a lot of people will spend almost as much time watching TV as we do training but because that's considered normal people don't pull them up on it.

I have to admit I don't always handle stress well myself but i think you've got a lot of good suggestions from other people here. I might have to follow a few of them up myself actually!

Take it as it comes Donny my man. 1 second, 1 minute, 1 hour at a time. Stupid advice, but you can't function 24/7 every day of the year being that stressed.

    2 things I do when I'm stressed:

This one you won't want to do; but I go into my snake room and mess with my animals in one capacity or another. It totally takes me out of the problems that are bothering me; and a calmness comes over me. When I sit in front of an animal that will challenge my mortality; everything else comes into focus and I realize life is crazy, but at least I'm alive. It sounds crazy, but it calms me. Like I said, I know you don't want snakes, but you asked what others did

The second is reading. I am a book reading fool. I can so escape into another world that nothing else matters. I will fall asleep reading.

But you sound like a very driven person who obsesses, so you might just need to prioritize the most important things and say the hell with something not so important. Just don't go booze up or dope yourself, that won't do anything but make you feel sh#ttier.

Do less of something you can do less of, otherwise you can end up with problems. You've got to make a little time for yourself just to vegetate or you end up getting ill.
