In an important middleweight clash, European middleweight champion Sebastian Sylvester (29-2, 14 KOs) earned a date with WBA middleweight champion Felix Sturm with an explosive twelfth round knockout of former two-division world champion and official WBA challenger Javier Castillejo (62-9, 43 KOs) on Saturday night at the Jahnsportforum in Neubrandenburg, Germany (115 miles north of Berlin). It was a brutal fight as the 40-year-old Castillejo pressed the action. The more mobile Sylvester was cut over the right eye in round two by an unintentional headbutt, but often stood his ground to exchange punches. The early rounds were close, maybe even a small edge to Castillejo, but that all changed in the sixth, when Sylvester had a huge round. "The Hurricane" repeatedly rocking Castillejo with big shots. From that point, Sylvester generally got the better of the exchanges and the bout ended dramatically when Sylvester laid out Castillejo with a huge right hand at the 1:53 mark. Castillejo was down for several minutes.
