I think Margarito's lack of straight, crisp, quick punching hurts him in a lot of fights. If he tightened everything up he could EASILY beat Paul Williams because Williams is easy to hit.

I just think it's more risk than reward at this point in time seeing how Williams just got dominated by Quintana. A fight vs Quintana would be a tough test for Margarito if he's not going to take the Cotto fight

Alot of politics has to play out before the could happen but I would like to see it.I think Margaritos led-footed start and Williams maximizing his reach and movement caused Tony much grief. That was almost two fights, with Tony looking lost over the 1st portion and then his pressure and power having Williams stand more still later on.I really can not see Williams staying around at Welter win or loss Vs.Quintana.

I think Margarito is so slow in terms of footwork, and even his hands that any of the better athletes wouldn't have much trouble with him. I think that good footwork would be a nightmare for Magarito. He reminds of an unathletic Mayorga, and even Mayorga couldn't deal with quick boxers.

Sergio Martinez, who is an excellent boxer and one of the best fighters at 154 couldn't handle Tony and he has slick footwork. Santos footwork isn't too bad and Tony should have got the W over him. It's not just footwork alone that beats Margarito,it's something to go with it. Santos and Williams had size and volume.

The 2 biggest things that hurt Tony against PW was not the angles. It was the sheer volume of punches combined with his slow start and the holding on the inside. Marg is a superb inside fighter but PW managed to hold him and make him ineffective there. THAT's what won him the fight. Not just the movement alone.

I'm picking Cotto over Margo the same way I picked Margo over cintron

But when Margo loses to Cotto(I'm sure of it ) and then he goes rematch Williams he better win because the boxing world will disapear him.

i think margo would win a rematch against williams. i think he would start off at a faster pace than he previously did and take the fight winning a UD, or stopping williams late

It is a shame in a way that Cotto is fighting Margarito in his next fight. Both fighters could clean the division and then fight, build up the anticipation for the fight as they are the two most active and dangerous men in the division.

    That comparison is totally inaccurate.

    Let's see Mayorga:

    Smokes
Has been knocked out 3 times
    Just throws bombs
    Inability to put punches together
    Always out of position
    Displays no class
Is no more than a club fighter / side show

    Whereas Margarito is
    A busy fighter
    Accurate
    Granite chin
    Systematically breaks his opponents will

    The similarities :
    They both get hit
    They are both latin boxers

Hardly the basis to compare the two !! You should be ashamed

One JCC had a very succeddful carer fighting this way while also being prone to fleet footed opponents.JCC was not an outstanding athlete.

Why not highlight how Cotto might have a nightmare having to think about being hit before casting of his shots. He has more feather like hitting opponents on his record than I have in my pillow.
