He did well at Heavyweight considering he could have made light heavy.
its too late now.
if he was gonna make a move down to light heavyweight he should have done it after the wladimer rematch. At this point he is a shell of a fighter he once was
Chris Byrd even at 50 percent shouldnt be getting stopped by Povetkin and getting hit by mediocre heavyweights. it's too late for him to make an impact, even at light heavyweight, he is a shell of the fighter he once was, maybe about 10 percent now..

Fact is, the light-heavies are almost as weak a division as you'll find in boxing at the moment, what with Tarver a champ and Dawson getting severely tested. Wouldn't surprise me that if byrd can make the weight fairly comfortably, then he should do pretty well.

Just out of intrest, how do ppl think Bird would have done against Toney or RJJ at CW and LHW about 5 years ago?

Byrd is going to be embarrassed losing to smaller guys.
It is a testament to him as a fighter if he can indeed comfortably make 175 as an older figher, after fighting at HW for well over a decade. Haven't heard of him opponent but I'm interested to see how he looks in there, for sure. Does seem a bit much now though.

He can recapture the weight,He debuted at Spr.Middle but he can not relive the years gone by. The damage is done.I actually have come to respect Byrd.....Just a bit.. I think he will be in for a shock with guys that can stay with him at a lower weight and have been there for a while.

He'd have been dominated just like everyone else who went up against RJJ certainly, I'd have given him a little more chance against Toney, but not much.
Fortunately for Byrd, light heavies is not the division it once was, and with champs like Erdei and Tarver, he's got more than just a punchers chance of winning something if he gets title shot.
I think having a former heavyweight titlist jumping down to light heavyweight is rather intriguing. Not something that has ever been done before (unless Herbie Hide counts and he only jumped to cruiserweight). Might build some interest in that division, especially for whoever has the Ring title after tomorrow.
