Did you see the article on the bbc website this week, with one of the guys who last beat Calzaghe back in his amateur days? Interesting read, and I bet he'll be getting his beers bought for him for the next couple of weeks as his face is recognised and he's asked to repeat the story down the pub.

    Here it is:

Fair play like. Nice to see a modest guy that you can tell genuinely doesn't revel in boasting about his win over Calzaghe.. if it was me i'd have it splashed all over the BBC and everything...

    On a serious note

If Hopkins wasn't the promoter and didn't have the home advantage i'd make Calzaghe a near CERTAINTY in this fight.. he'd beat the old boy doing cartwheels.

BUT.. (Colin Hart style) Brits in Vegas haven't got the best record

I think Bernard has plenty of speed, especially up top where it counts... His footspeed is as fast anyone's around the weight class except Dawson, and Wright did put a whole lot of pressure on him, more then I think Calzaghe will. Calzaghe is used to a guy standing there or coming forward trying to hit him, it should be interesting seeing him come forward against a guy who really knows how to take away your oppertunities to land punches.

Nice breakdown Rhun, I think Calzaghe sweeps the first 7 rounds and then Hopkins will start fighting very dirty and win by suplex or submission.

One thing that you didn't take into account, or maybe i missed it is the time difference. It affects fighters more than it's mentioned.
Calzaghe has never fought in an American time zone before, 9 hours difference will have a big impact.

In all honesty I expect Hopkins to look stellar in the last few rounds, but will have given far too much away in the first 1/2 of the fight to make a comeback. Unless Hopkins gets a KO, Calzaghe wins by a wide UD 9 rounds to 3.

The time difference shouldn't be a big disadvantage, I hear the fight is earlier than usual Vegas time, about 3a.m. Britain time, his fights with Lacy & Kessler wer on at 2a.m., but it will be different for joe and not sure how he'll react.

One other weakness for Joe is Enzo, saw interview with him just now on Setanta and the guy's a coronary waiting to happen, he needs to be calm.
