Round 1: Finally! The bell rings and the matchup everyone has been calling for for so long begins. The arena is absolutely electric right now, very pro Calzaghe. Joe comes out early stalking the circling Hopkins. Hopkins looks very fast moving with his feet side to side. Hopkins lunges in early with a right hand to the body and the two tied up after that. Calzaghe not launching the jab in the first minute like most thought he would and a right hand floors Calzaghe! It doesn't look like he's to hurt but a bick shocker. Calzaghe looks a bit tense now, stalking forward still not jabbing or throwing many punches. Hopkins scores with another right hand, right between the southpaw guard of Calzaghe. Not any sign of the jab yet for Joe and Hopkins just keeps circling. Calzaghe lunges forward and the two tie up and Hopkins circles to the bell. Big round for Hopkins, absolute domination in the first.

Round 2: Calzaghe again stalking Hopkins, backs Hopkins to the ropes before Hopkins lunges towards Joe with a straight right hand. The two tie up after that. Calzaghe just does not seem comfortable getting off yet. Calzaghe lunges with a right to the body a minute in but gets tied up immediately. Hopkins again with the right hand, scoring with it almost at will from the outside. Calzaghe needs to generate some type of offense, five minutes in the fight and has shown almost no semblance of a jab. Now Calzaghe double jabs his way in and Hopkins is hit low as he tried to tie up. He's fine and comes back trying to work in his own jab but a now more aggressive Calzaghe forces the fight on the inside and lets go a few left hands inside at the bell. A better round for Calzaghe but still very close.
