Thompson is the WBO mandatory. To keep his alphabet trinkets Wlads got to fight two mandatories a years. In the fall he will fight his IBF mandatory Alexander Povetkin.

It's nice to have a unified champ, but it brings on a whole new set of problems with crap mandatories. Thompson should have to fight Povetkin for the right to fight the unified champ.

At least he's only fighting the no.1 contenders and not some chosen mandatory. He should be clear to fight one of the other nelt holders for a good 9 months after that, which seems to be his intention.
