Actually tow-in surfing is easier than paddling in, if the ocean isn't too choppy granted. You're strapped in so you can manuever like you couldn't on a regular board and you're going much faster - you just need a big set of balls. Of course if the waves breaking are really 100 feet then yeah heh, it's gonna be some rough water and more than likely you'd need a foil board otherwise the wave surface will be tooooooooooo rough to ride.
This is about the most you can do with a typical tow-in board without eating it, and thats 60-70 feet
