I was talking about this with a freind a few nights ago. One hell of a left hand.Seen cooper in the sun a week ago or so.Making peace with Joe Bugner.

I love the story that Cooper would have beat him aswell,Have the fight on DVD my mate was all like "Ive watched the fight he has a 5 minute break!"

Just laughed in his face its 5 seconds extra on the end of the round. But that's all it took.

I think Clay/Ali showed he could ride out a storm and even if the punch had landed earler in the round Clay would have survived and stopped Cooper in round 5 just he said he would.

I have heard him say he could have been champion but with all due respect to him he would have got slaughtered by Liston and Ali did him a favour.

IMO it would not have really changed much...just a minor set back for Clay/Ali at the time would have been all...That man was destined to be who he was...I mean you have to really think about him as a whole....Ali was bigger then boxing.....Besides like it was already said...Liston would have murdered poor Henry

    I agree.

A loss did not do Joe Louis any harm.

Plus Coopers manager said he would not let him in the same street as Liston never mind the same ring.

I think the quote they used to use was that Liston was too ugly for Cooper to fight against! In other words he would never fight him.

Ali was carrying Cooper in the fight and got careless. When He got up he was Okay, He would have moved and cleared his head Im certain . I was there, extra time there was none.

Well the thing with "What ifs" is when you start diggin in then someone can comeback and say well "Imagine how different the fight would have been if Ali wouldn't have got careless?"

Exactly, also it's not as if this was an even matchup to determine the future of the HW division, Ali was always bound to do much greater things.

Ali DID get up... and he has proven later, MUCH later, on in his career, he can weather the storm of a Frazier when he's hurt.

I don't think one left hook could do it. Cooper did get close, it's not a question of 10 seconds earlier, it's more like 10 seconds INTO the round.

First time I seen Barrera get knocked out, I was amazed at HOW LONG it took to get him to quit. I imagine the same thing with Ali, except that Hook was a helluva hook! So it could easily had finished Ali had Cooper had at least a minute to finish Ali, or Cassius, up.

It would probably not even be spoken of today other then is passing...

I read a book called "Facing Ali" sometime back...The Author talks with 10 of Ali's opponets and how the fight with him changed their life...They have a chapter there with Cooper....He tells exactly how he feels things would have went IF he won...and he recognizes the fact he was not on the verge of ending that fight
