    Why?

Because he allows himself to baloon out of shape, kills himself in training and weakens his immune system.
You beat me to it the best post on this topic so far.
The only way his immune system would be weak is if he had severley over-trained. If he had severley over-trained for every fight, his in the ring perfromance would be absolutely awful everytime he fought. This obviously isn't the case.

I know his lifestyle isn't ideal but to say thats the reason he gets cold or flu isn't very factual.

I also find it hard to believe that Kerry Kayes would allow him to over-train.

I can only think of two recent occassions where he has been ill before a fight. Against Urango and now.

When you consider that his training camp is 12 weeks long and he has 2 fights per year, this equals 24 weeks of training. 24 weeks without a cold would be pretty exceptional (or lucky) by anyone's standards.

When you consider that the average person has between 3-4 colds per year, it's very hard to prove that his lifestyle has anything to do with him catching Colds.

Interestingly the most common time to catch a cold is between September and May. He fought Urango in January and the Lazcano illness will most likely have started in late April.

He sheds a minimum of 26 pounds coming into every fight and has to dehydrate himself before every weigh in. It may not be over training, but it would have a similar effect.
You can see how gaunt he is at every weigh in.

And I actually feel he hasn't performed to his optimum since the Tszyu fight

26lbs over 12 weeks isn't a great deal. You could lose 12lbs through dieting alone. So basically all he would need to do would be burn an extra 500 cals per day as well as eating 500 less. I'm pretty sure Joe Calzaghe goes through much much worse. Especially with dehydrating himself.

Being dehydrated would also lower his punch resistance and there isn't any evidence to suggest that that has gone.

I agree with your last point but i feel that has more to do with the step up in class and a major change in his own tactics. Technically he has gone backwards imo.
