Reigning NABF super bantamweight champion Bernabe Concepcion will have to wait a little longer before landing a title shot. Concepcion received word from United States IBF super bantamweight king Steve Molitor refused to face him on the undercard to the Manny Pacquiao-David Diaz pay-per-view on June 28 at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

Instead, the 20-year old native of Catanduanes will probably put his title on the line for the third time. Matchmaker Bruce Trampler of Concepcion’s Las Vegas-based promotional company, Top Rank, is looking for his challenger.

“We’ll make another (NABF) title defense. Molitor refuse to fight Abe,” said Aljoe Jaro, handler and trainer of Concepcion in Binangonan, Rizal.

Concepcion came back home in the Philippines last week after defending his title against American Torrence Daniels with impressive second round knockout at Plaza de Toros Juriquilla in Queretaro, Queretaro, Mexico on April 26.

Concepcion has a record of 25-1-1 with 14 knockouts. He is ranked fourth under WBC super bantamweight king Israel “Magnifico” Vazquez (43-4, 31 KOs) of Mexico but unranked under Molitor (27-0,10 KOs).

Molitor is 28-year old southpaw and stands three-inches taller than Concepcion at 5-foot-7. He is considered to be the weakest among the world champions in 122-pound class.

Well at 1st glance I was gonna ask why would Steve not go for it?

But after further review Steve just went the distance last month and would have about 4 weeks or so to prepare for the fight. I'm guessing it's a time thing... But not sure on that.

I also checked the IBF rankings and Bernabes not even ranked there. I see Boom Boom Baustista there but not Bernabe...

So all in all for me, I'm not too bothered over this as I don't think the fight makes sense to Steve.

Concepcion challenged Molitor on the strength of Concepcion being the NABF Super Bantam champ... Also that Molitor being considered as the weakest among the current 122 world champs...

    .
It's a bit misleading to say Molitor is the weakest of all the bantamweight champs as although clearly he lacks the experience and resume's of the other guys he's developing into a fantastic fighter.

If he fought Ponce De Leon and Cabbelero right now he has an excellent chance of beating either in my opinion.

Vazquez is obviously a really tough fight but we've yet to see the effect that the ring wars Marquez and Vazquez have had and how detrimental it will be to their future careers.

Quite honestly I've got a feeling Marquez is now on the slide and Vazquez has been in many ring wars.

It's possible Molitor could emerge as the divisions best fighter over the next 12/18 months, certainly number 2 behind Vazquez.

I would say skill wise Molitor is actually one of the most skilled fighters at 122 IMO anyway.

I think ultimately what will propel Steve to being considered one of the best, is more his intelligence in the boxing ring. Of course that will not get you far alone, but if matched with a good skill set...who knows.

    By calling Molitor as the weakest 122 champ, Team Concepcion might have based it on KO percentage;

Ponce De Leon - 88% (30 KO of 34 wins)

    Vazquez - 72% (31 of 43)

    Caballero - 68% (19 of 28 )

    Molitor - 37% (10 of 27)

BTW, Concepcion has a 56% KO ratio (14 of 25)...

Molitor isn't a toe to toe fighter, and I believe he would give any of the other champions a run for their money if he can take their punches. Technically I see him as the best fighter, but obviously he doesn't hit very hard.

Good on Moiltor for realizing he needs an extended break, he'll be better of for it. I wouldn't mind seeing him in against the other top guys of the division as I feel he'd be quite competitive

Maybe Yvonne is referring to Concepcion...
