I feel bad to say it about ricky and i wonder if it is true or not.. but he never used to hold before tszyu or his latter fights..

But since then he has held alot more, and it seems like he is a little timid that he is going to get hit.. but at some points he smothers his own work..
This is kinda the point im making , as Ricky was a windmill of a fighter with good defensive skills againest lesser oposition, now he hits and grabs alot , which i think has made alot of the guys hate Hatton especially those stateside.

Ricky has great footwork. He is fast on his feet and great at cutting off the ring. His only issue is that he sometimes does not give himself enough room to get off clean shots.

I really cannot find any bad traits about him except on how he treats his body between fights.

great pressure fighter, strong, fast, great footwork, great bodywork.

Only problem with him is he clinches too much and there's something about his chin, i feel thats to do with him going up in weight though.

Hatton does clinch way too much. Im hoping we see a return to the sharp boxing we saw for the first 6 against Urango. That was lovely to watch.

    Positives:

    1: Tremendous heart
    2: Fast footwork
    3: Good handspeed
    4: Very strong at 140
    5: Excellent body puncher

    Negatives:
1: Lacks head-movement, especially in 2nd half of fights
2: Open to straight right hands
3: Struggles badly with quality southpaws (who doesn't?)
    4: Cannot fight at 147
5: Smothers his own work sometimes

I could go on with the positives and negatives. He's a great fighter all in all. A very likeable guy.

I noticed a few posts saying he holds a lot at 147 because he has a questionable chin. That's not true. At 147 he doesn't have the natural core strength of the natural welters. If he doesn't hold, he will get pushed back. That's why Collazo and Mayweather were such struggles....amongst other things.

I have alos noticed he changed his style for the Kostya Tszyu fight and it worked perfectly. However he hasn't really gone back to his old style......other than the first half of the Urango fight. His old style was fantastic to watch and very effective.

By the way he doesn't hit and hold, What he actually does is he uses one arm to move his opponents arms out of the way.....to enable him to land a punch. It's stil wrong imo but apparently its legal.

Spot on post. I also think his short arms hurt him at WW. He has lousy reach for even at LWW, but the weakness comes into play even more at 147. He gave up 7" to both Collazo and Mayweather. It's harder jab his way in and once he is gets in, he's not physically stronger.

I think he has slipped. I used to love watching Hatton but now find him an ugly messy jarring fighter.

Maybe it's just the classier level of fighter that has slowed him.

But it must also be down to his lifestyle and the ridiculous amount of filthy lucre he demands these days.. which i guess is understandable.
