Lyle I thought the opposite for Cotto against Sugar Shane.

Cotto: He's easily drawn into a brawl, he wants to impress his Puerto Rican fans with KO's and presses too much and gets in trouble for it, he's an excellent boxer but rarely wants to use that to set up his punches....he too has done better in the last few fights

Jermain Taylor: He has an offense that only works on the outside and a defense that he only wants to use on the inside, he tries too hard to land the homerun right cross, and he doesn't let his hands go enough.
My problem with Jermain (and this wasn't always the case) is that he waits for openings instead of creating them.

Oh he's gotten much better but what bothers me is when he fights in Puerto Rico he just tries too hard....as was the case with Ricardo Torres and Demarcus Corley.

As for Jermain, he waits and he doesn't put his punches together anymore

Wasn't the Torres fight at MSG? Anyway, I think Taylor's biggest problems are in his head but he held it together a bit better last time.

The Torres fight was in Atlantic City and he was a substitute fighter....I guess the Urkal fight would have been a better choice to support my theory.

If Taylor's problems were in his head he wouldn't have done so well vs Hopkins and Wright

Maybe Jermain Taylor is more of an athlete than a skilled boxer

He is my favourite fighter and has some flaws but that was his weakness in his last defeat.

    Ahh nice topic.

Larry Holmes = Often didn't get his jab hand up quick enough and was caught with right hands by Snipes, Shavers, because of that.

Floyd Mayweather Jr = Often lays on the ropes too much and allows his opponent's to tee off, even though most of the punches miss but still you get my point.

You know its funny that guys like Roy Jones Jr, Muhammad Ali, actually done most things wrong in the ring, yet they could get away with it because of there amazing speed and ring smarts of course.
I remember that right hand landed by Shavers. Holmes hit the floor like he was shot, but somehow got up. Amazing.
