Excellent read.
Cotto vs. Margarito: a Great Fight but will it be a Great Event?
Excellent read.
Was a good read cheers man.
How do you predict this one? I think Cotto is gonna have to use his boxing skills to win this one, but he is giving away reach and height. Cotto can be hurt and I think Margarito will hurt him, then what? With his workrate Cotto will be on the back foot a lot.
I have only seen a handfull of Margarito fights and from what I see it's pointless trying to KO him. Has he ever been hurt to the body?
This fights too far away. Can't wait
IU've been harping on about this fight for about 1year and a half!!! My 2 fave fighters and the 2 best WW. I was very very confident that Margarito would win but I've had to re-evaluate as of late. 2 things:
Margarito has never had to face a jab as good sa Cotto's and a jab can stop/hinder anyone.
Cotto's handspeed will trouble Tony.
However, I still favour Marg, based on the factors mentioned: size, power, and workrate. If Cotto wants to box,Tony will cut the ring off. If he wants to brawl,he'll have to take alot to give alot:Marg is the quintessential Mexican warrior, take 2 to give 1 type guy. The main punches will be the uppercuts of Tony and Cottos bodyshots. However, just because Cotto is smaller, doesn't make him better on the inside, as Tony is an awesome inside fighter.
I'll tell you what would win this fight: if Margarito had a good jab. if he learnt how to pump a good, strong jab,he would beat Cotto's ass.The reach advantage would be too much. I'm taking Tony via stoppage, jab or no jab,too big,too strong and too much to lose.
I'd have to disagree there. I think Cotto is top dog at 147 and that includes Mayweather. Tony got outboxed by Williams who has since lost to a Cotto leftover . Now Cotto will outbox Margarito . If he doesnt feel he can knock him out he will choose to do it the easy way . Whatever happens I cant see Tony winning .
Margarito wasn't in top form against Williams plus Williams gave Margarito problems because of his work rate, height, punching angles etc. Cotto won't give Margarito the same problems Williams did, and just because Williams lost to a guy Cotto beat in impressive fashion means nothing, and you should know better than that Game, boxing is all about Rock, Paper, Scissors.
Although saying that i think Cotto wins tough UD he has superior boxing skills, shorter hooks which is a key factor in exchanges because that will allow Cotto to win exchanges against Margarito's much wider hooks, plus Cotto has better foot work than the slow plodding Margarito, has better hand speed than the mediocre hand speed of Margarito. Plus i would like to see how Margarito reacts to Cotto's body shots, Margarito has been decked by body shots before and yes i know it was early in his career but still since that no one has really tested his mid section to my knowledge so that will be interesting to see how Margarito reacts.
Margarito will give Cotto some problems with his work rate, uppercut, and his good ability at trapping opponents on the ropes where he does his best work. I like Margarito but if Cotto uses his boxing skills and fights smart i can see Cotto clearly winning tough UD by at least 3 or 4 rounds. Cotto is a smarter fighter than Margarito and i believe Cotto is smart enough to box for 12 rounds, remember he is a patient fighter and has improved greatly since his reckless fights with Torres, Corley.

I don't see Cotto having problems at all with the slow, poorly taught Margarito, I think Margarito is one of those guys who can come out as a tough indestructible guy who will eventually beat you up, but the best fighters in the division like Cotto, MAyweather, Mosley, etc. who keep sharp for 12 rounds will make him look silly.
If Mayweather still doesn't fight Cotto after this I would like to see Cotto face Clottey or Berto if he's ready.
IMO.....i choose TONY over COTTO by KO. not a devistating ko but the type that will come by the ref. I've seen COTTO's chin vulnerable by boxers who have and don't have power and we've all seen TONY getting hit massively with those who do have power and he still comes forward.....that is the heart of a CHAMPION and that will give him the belt.
I know i sound confident but that's what i think will happen with his length and power. Mind that i said he will win by KO but it will be between the 7th through ninth round if not tenth. Great hooks to the body and a straight right hook to the chin of COTTO and that's all she wrote.
This is just my OPINION.....i love COTTO since the day he first fought and i saw something in him but i've seen him get hurt too many times. He is smart knows how to keep his composure and is patient but he has yet to fight someone with the caliber of TONY.
To answer the ? if it is going to be a great event...............YES IT WILL!!!!!!!
Well those are my thoughts...............back to you JIM.
...Ewww...Hollier Jeezeez......I'm smelling bets.
damn MArgo is huge.
But I'm still pulling for Cotto

Spicoli,
If you haven't noticed this "mickyluvsu" character is sooo into me he even chose a name related to mine.
I think he's a fag.
Spicoli, actually "mickyluvsu" he's like my brother. My mom and his mom grew up together. He and I lived in the same apartment complexes our entire childhood and into our teens. We did the whole "Stand by Me" thing where we went camping, vandalizing in our early teen years. We went to the same Jr. High & H.S. and we party'ed our asses off in H.S.
Matter a fact Spicoli, 1st day of our senior year in H.S. I'm walking past his house on the way to school (where we usually met) and this fucker already has a lit jointat 6:45 in the fucken morning 1st day of school. I looked at him and said you fucken high mutha' **er got damn! it's fucken 6 in the morning all he said (while holding his breath) was "So you gonna hit this?"
I said yeah!
Besides I ain't betting with his ass anymore took his as almost half a year to pay me when I kicked his ass for Super Bowl XXVII.
