Good topic. Some of mine are

Ray Mercer- In another era of heavyweights he would have been an animal with his power and chin of granite.

Jerry Quarry- If it were not for Ali, Frazier and Foreman this guy would have been a premier heavyweight in the 1970 era

Virgil Hill- I consider this guy an all time great but for some reason he is overlooked.

maybe if he hadn't wasted some of his prime years worshipping the devil around campfires in Colombia. Could have spent that time honing his technique. Missed opportunities.

Yeah he had a great KO% but he didn't ever succeed against anyone of note, the exception was catching Viv, but he was way behind when he did. Swinging for the fences doesn't make someone a great, entertaining maybe but not great.

Actually I think Pryor somewhat fits this. He's still a great, but he really could've been greater. I think he's overrated historically despite being a monster in mythical H2H matchups @ 140. Bad luck, and Pryor's own demons, prevented him from being greater than he was. Everyone makes a big thing about Leonard not fighting Pryor, but it's not like they were in the same division anyway. Pryor was unlucky to have the top lightweights willing to fight him, as he probably could've been a two-division champ with titles at 135 and 140.

Regardless of that, he could've been greater if not for his own drug problems.

Fernando Vargas- I'll always say it, he had all the tools, but was rushed way too fast and didn't know how to deal with the pressure

Oscar Larios- I think he could have been awesome, but never fulfilled his full potential

Agree 100% on Vargas, was rushed big time and it ruined him too quickly.
