I hate the way the NHL is reffed. Not that the Wings didn't deserve a penalty, but the refs let so much go in the overtime it's ridiculous.
Array
It just seems inconsistent the way it's reffed, you never know what they are going to let go or what is fair play, although the last one was an easy call to make and the right one obviously. Still, lots of tense power play time and I didn't think any of it was warranted.

I agree, it makes the league look very amateurish. I especially hate the make-up calls. If one team gets a powerplay in the 3rd period, you're almost guaranteed to see that same team get a bullshit call against them to even things up. I hate it and it needs to be addressed. There's also a completely different standard of officiating in the playoffs than there is in the regular season.

I agree it's like make up calls are an accepted part of the game and if you kill a penalty you're entitled to a shot of your own. Ridiculous absolutely ridiculous I HATE that more then anything. Make up calls suck. I'll give them credit it's a very hard game to officiate and I think the league does a good job with reviews but there has to be a set standard to how a game is called. In the NBA Stern emphasised that a game is to be called exactly as it would in the opening minutes then it would in the closing seconds and in hockey that's just not true. I don't mind it but in the Sharks - Stars 4 OT affair you had 2 calls and both were absolute must calls. They called 3 ticky tack fouls in this one with the Cup on the line, just no consistency.

It's beyond stupid, I don't know of any other league that has as many blatant make-up or even-up calls. For all his faults, Stern's got it right on this issue, the game should be officiated in the same way no matter what the clock says or what time of year it is.
Edit: Have you heard the rumor about Marleau + unnamed player being traded to Columbus for Zherdev and the 6th pick in the draft? It's nothing more than an unsubstanciated rumor, but I thought it was interesting.

Yes I had heard on the Mercury blog and at first it didn't make much sense to me because Marleau is the captain of the team and we need to bulk up on defense. But with a high pick in supposedly a pretty stacked draft the plan would be to pick a defenseman in the draft who could play right away. If that's the case then I guess it wouldn't be so bad. Zherdev is a huge question mark though, great player but it seems all I ever hear about him is off-ice stuff and how no one likes him. But of course a change of scenery could fix that.
I don't know, I would prefer they not part with Marleau but if they could pull off that deal and draft a really stellar defenseman then I could live with it.
