I picked Cotto..Too classy, too fast, too skilled for Margarito who's only obvious advantages over Cotto in this fight are his chin and his reach IMO. I may be wrong but whatever the outcome this will be a sick fight![]()
I am in agreement with most boxing fans in that i just cannot see this being anything other than a barnstormer.
I am going with the minority and going for a Margarito win in about 9-10 rounds. While i agree that Cotto will win if he becomes the boxer, but i think his macho pride will drag him into a war. Margarito has a great chin, Cottos gone over or been wobbled a few times and although he has always recovered quickly i think Margarito will finish him.
Styles make fights.
Cotto UD, just too good.

I'm surprised at how many people think Cotto is going to rely on his boxing ability moreso then banging Margarito out. Or at least how many of them think if he brawls that he loses.
The way I see it Cotto has the faster hands on the inside that he can well afford to go inside and try to impose himself on Margarito maybe even move him back some. Margarito really doesn't have a good inside punch other then the uppercut. Granted Cotto is seemingly open to the uppercut but it's still a slow punch.
I'm torn on how he wins but I've got little doubt that he does. Just think he's the better fighter and when Cotto gets hurt it's with punches that come out of nowhere and Margarito just doesn't have anything like that.
^ Yeah I agree, I think he can mix in some of the boxing and moving but he doesn't have to rely on that, he's got the better defense and shorter straighter quicker punches that he can use on the inside.
Cotto by UD or TKO. I see him mixing it up - taking it to Margarito, boxing him, taking a few rounds off and when he finds the right openings (which he will) working the hell out of Tony.

Cotto can take a UD if he uses his jab and movement and avoid fighting on the inside. I have a small feeling that Cotto could maybe take out Margarito with a body shot but thats probably very unlikely.

I have posted in the past that this will win fight of the year honors unless something crazy happens. Man flying into the ring,Ear being bit off etc. I would have said Cotto a year ago but as we get closer and we've seen what he has done to Cintron I've got to go with Margarito. He's big, strong, solid jaw,and throws way too many punches. Don't get me wrong I think Cotto could outbox him with the jab but Margarito eats punches and just keeps coming. Margarito will outwork him, break his spirit and stop him in 10.

i think Cotto will win by judge robbery.

I see inconsistancys with tonys game plan i just dont see in cottos.
Miguel will look to fight the first 4-5 rounds at a gentle pace slowly working away with that left hand and looking to lead in before working away on the inside late on.
If that doesnt work im quite sure cotto will have no problems going toe to toe with marg and seeing who can throw the harder more damaging shots.
Antonio HAS to dictate the pace of the fight to win it, cotto doesnt. That will prove to be a telling factor!!!

I want Cotto to win because I am a fan. I wouldn't be horribly disappointed or even terribly surprised if he did lose to Margarito tho, as I do respect Margo.
It would just piss me off that it would give PBF a way out of fighting Cotto (and I do believe floyd would do just that).
I'm going for a late round stoppage, TKO.

Difficult to say... People keep saying Cotto by stoppage, even though Margarito has never been stopped and the last time he was on his ass was when he was a teenager fighting grown men.
I know Cotto is the goods, but I think its funny that people discount Margarito's durability and body of work at Welterweight.
To me Cotto has never been pressured, the way Tony brings it and I think we know about Tony's will and mental makeup, to me the jury is still out on Cotto. Miguel threw it in reverse when he couldnt break Shane down and boxed off the backfoot well, but Margarito comes at you with a differnt kind of pressure, he has excellent punch selection and everyone is nasty. Cotto needs to stay away from the ropes
Margarito was knocked down by Danny Perez in 1999 but i see your point, Cotto was surperior boxing skills plus he can box on the back foot very well, plus because his hooks are much shorter he can win exchanges just some the ponder about.
Margarito was badly hurt by a body shot by Juan Soberanes now Margarito was a teenager at the time but has anyone really tested Margarito to the body since ?? i think it will be interesting to see how Margarito copes with Cotto's body attack.
