Tommy Hearns had no chin and couldn't box

Herol Graham was an oft-avoided defensive wizard, the only reason he never won a title is because nobody good would fight him.

Roy Jones Jnr fought and defeated the best fighters in three different weight classes.

Ray Leonard defeated Marvin Hagler (!)

Muhammad Ali was the best heavyweight in the world from 1974 onwards.

Gene Tunney only beat Jack Dempsey because of the long count.

The Jack Johnson / Stanley Ketchell fight was not fixed.

VD automatically roots for British fighters once he finds out where they come from.

I get the chin thing but do that many people say Hearns couldn't box?

No, I guess not, but people forget that he was the only man to completely outbox the great Ray leonard in his prime. People think of him more as a one-hit puncher only.

This is true... When you think of Tommy you don't think of pernel whitiker... But about outboxing Ray... It happened...

    1) Joe Louis was ripped off from most of his money

Sure, he wasn’t as rich as he should have been, but he wasn’t exactly destitute and living off the streets. You have to judge it in comparison to most black people in 1930’s, 40’s, 50’s America then you have to say he was well off in comparison.

    2) Cuban’s are the baddest, roughest fighters out there and if they turned pro the boxing landscape would change

Erm, not really. Remember Jose Luis Gonzalez ? He was as decorated a Cuban as any, yet in the pro arena, he was exposed by Bowe who was then exposed by Golota who then exposed by Lewis. I know I should not base my myth on one example, but even Teofilo Stevenson or Felix Savon would not have lasted in the pro arena. Yeah they will most likely clean up in the Olympics in a few months time but in the pro arena with the 3 minute rounds, more emphasis on power, stamina, aggression and chin rather than the pitter-patter scoring system in the amateurs then I’m not sure they would make it but I could be wrong and with Castro stepping down maybe more will try their hand

    3) Black fighters don’t cut as easy

I think people have been watching too many Henry Cooper/Ali and Lewis/ Klitschko clips with this one. In fact some of the worst cuts I have seen have come from black fighters

    4) Carlos Monzon

You tube him and watch him and to me I don’t get the big thing about. The most overrated fighter of all time

    5) It was a racist conspiracy that denied Larry Holmes the chance to break Marciano's 49-0 record when he was beaten by Spinks

He beat you twice Larry (TWICE) get over it, and I didn’t even rate Spinks that highly. I think Holmes should be thankful that he was fighting in an era of mediocrity and besides Tyson put him well and truly in his place.

    6) Frank Bruno could not fight

Bruno was beaten 4 times by a peak Tyson, Lewis, Witherspoon and Bonecrusher, that is a SERIOUS array of boxing talent. Any fighter of ANY era would have struggled to fight all four of the above fighters and still keep their ‘O’ intact. Besides imagine if a 26 year old Frank Bruno was around today ?

    And finally

    7) Rocky 1 was a great movie

No way. I know it got best film at the oscars in 76 but Rocky 3 and 4 were the best, Clubber Lang (AKA Mr T) "I pidde da foo" and Ivan Drago “If he dies…..he dies" classic

It was the 60's 70's and 80's Joe that people feel sorry for, the champ was forced to live as a nightclub greeter to fuel his coke habit and live and empty life.

I've never heard of Cubans being called rough or bad, but In truth no other nation has produced such a steady stream of skillful amateurs as Cuba.
Sure Russia is No.1 right now, but they don't have the history Cuba do.

    3) Black fighters don’t cut as easy

    True.

    4) Carlos Monzon

This point is the reason I quoted you.
Monzon was a force of nature!
Look at what he did to Nino!

    5) It was a racist conspiracy that denied Larry Holmes the chance to break Marciano's 49-0 record when he was beaten by Spinks

    True.

    Bruno could box, not fight.
When keping the fight at his distance and jab-crossing frank could let go bombs.

But fighting, really fighting at close range, he could be taken out by many. Great guy Frank Bruno.

    And finally

    7) Rocky 1 was a great movie

Rocky 1 was a far superior movie

I'm sorry but Stevenson and Savon would have done very well in the pros.

castillo beat mayweather in their first fight

Unless your gay for lederman it was obviously clear at the time and when watching the fight again and again that mayweather won it by at least 2 clear rounds!!
