What cover songs were better than the original versions?

Whiskey in the jar - Thin Lizzy

Tainted Love - Marilyn Manson

Metallica redid Whiskey in the Jar; loved it personally.

Other than Beautiful People, Tainted Love is the only other song I liked from Manson; good cover.

Korn did real good at making a Another Brick in the Wall cover originally done by the great Pink Floyd.

I didn't actually like Metallica's version.
I like the traditional versions though.

Ditto with Manson. Dislike him as a person and his music generally, but I love those two tracks, it's ironic you named them both!

And Korn's version was very good.

Really Ironic you chose all those songs legion!

the worst cover i've heard of late is Godsmack's Good Times Bad Times by Zeppelin.. just an absolute HORRENDOUS rendition of a great song.. Godsmack may be by far one of the worst bands that has ever sent sound waves into my ears..

"Cinammon Girl", originally done by Neil Young, was covered by Type-O-Negative.

No a cover of this song but Prince has an original piece titled Cinammon Girl in hi album Musicolgy... My fav. track on there.

I gotta disagree here.. I love me some Chris and I've often said he's a genius and he has the best voice of my times. But no, I can not say his cover of Billie is better then MJ's original.
No one will ever do it better then MJ.
I like Chris cover it's brilliant but as far as anything from the Thriller album goes those songs go above and beyond anything. Just my opinion...

Which reminds me of what a piece of shit the guys from Fall Out Boy did with their cover of Beat It...
Same goes for Amy Winehouse and whoever the fuck that was next to her singing...

Nirvana's - Man who sold the world was a good Bowie cover also..

Okay, okay, I'm have to admit to this, but I loved the reality show "Rock Star" when it was on, the talent was 1000 times better than Idol (yes, I watched that too, as I hang my head in shame). And there were some songs that were covered great IMO, and one was The Man Who Sold The World covered by Jordis. She was fanastic! Every time I hear her sing this song I get the chills.
