WBA super-feather champ Edwin Valero (24-0, 24 KOs), 129.75, kept his belt as he collected another victim and extended his KO streak by demolishing Japanese challenger Takehiro Shimada (22-4-1, 15 KOs), 129.75, at 1:55 of the seventh round. Valero had swept all rounds with his aggression against the defensive challenger. In the seventh, Valero finally caught the footworker and floored him with a southpaw right hook following a strong left to the face. Referee Guillermo Perez Pineda, Panama, made a well-timed halt to the onslaught, though Shimada barely stood up with rubbery legs. (More to come)

IMO i think Valero will be the next Daniel Ponce De Leon. Valero just like De Leon is limited but has amazing power which is an equalizer. But power only gets you so far in boxing and fighters like Guzman, would tear up Valero.

Valero has faster handspeed, a better jab,better footwork, can cut off the ring,not as 1 dimensional and has better bodyshots than Ponce. And the guy V Nom was fighting was unbeaten for 7 years.

Im not saying Valero doesn't do things better than De Leon, but i still feel when Valero comes up against a good boxer he will get exposed like De Leon. I do like Valero but i have to accept the fact he is very limited and until he shows me anything different im sticking with that opinion.
