Cotto and Pavlik with Mayweather and Calzaghe.
Calzaghe and his camp are running like spineless guttless turds. Lets fight another old man.

Lacy and kessler were younger, fuck Hopkins, you all wanted the fight right? wanted him to fight in the states right? Joe did it and won.

Now Hopkins was old and fighting in the states was irrelevant for Joe? If Joe said NO you have a right to say that. But you don't, he did the business.

    LOL

Something somebody kind of alluded to before is how much the decision not to fight a guy is based on the fighter's decision or on the promoter's decision. Especially early in a fighter's career he might not be able to really call the shots on who he wants to fight or doesn't. Established veteran stars you would think would have the leverage to say I want that fight.

Without calling it a 'Duck' both Mosley and De La Hoya side stepped Tszyu in the 90's. DLH was at 140 in 96' while Tszyu was IBF champ (no fight?)and Mosley skips 140lb altogether and fights Rivera and Wise before DLH in 2000?
mmmm.....I often wonder why? Was it ducking him? maybe they just forgot who he was or didn't want to know who he was!

De La Hoya was a much bigger payday, and considered by most a bigger challenge as well for Shane.

Tszyu fought on the undercard of DLH-Gonzalez in January 1997, DH's last fight @ 140. A build-up for a future fight between the two? Maybe. Tszyu and Mas had that one-round no-contest, which doesn't help the build-up. A month after DLH fought Whitaker, Tszyu lost to Phillips.

Right after DLH-Whitaker, Arum announced DLH's future matchups. I don't think Tszyu was mentioned, maybe there was no intention from Arum for a DLH-Tszyu match, but I don't remember for sure.

The Phillips loss at 140lb was one month after DLH V Whitaker at 147lb, the Mas fight was a demolition and wrongly called a ND, i think DLH saw this as a real threat to his ultimate goal of being WW champ and he challenged an aging Whitaker instead.

No in both cases, neither is a duck yet.

Floyd fought Oscar last year in May because he could make way more money than any other fight, and because Cotto wasn't ready (he hadn't even beaten a fighter of Judah's caliber yet).

Floyd was going to fight Oscar again because he was by far the biggest paycheck. Now, if Cotto beats Margarito and then beats Oscar (with Oscar going into retirement after that), then Cotto would at that point be by far the most worthy challenger AND the biggest paycheck. At that point, if Floyd were to come back in 2009 and fight anyone besides Cotto, then it would be 100% fair to accuse Floyd of ducking him.

Calzaghe isn't ducking Pavlik. People bash old Roy Jones, but Jones is still a much bigger name in America (and Europe) than Pavlik is. I bet Jones will bring a bigger paycheck and many more PPV buys than Pavlik can. And why should Joe rush to fight Pavlik?? Pavlik is young, he's not going anywhere. Joe can fight Jones and then still have Pavlik as an option after. Whereas Jones is near the end, if Joe puts off fighting him, he may never get the chance to fight him.
