I cannot see Pavlik caring to face Kessler at this point in time. Kessler is just regrouping himself and does not offer anything Pavlik would want.

Calzaghe on the other hand was a huge target in the boxing world. A big enough target where Pavlik was willing to move up in weight for.

Once Kessler gets his feet wet again with a couple good wins, then he becomes a viable top opponent again. One who is worth the jump in weight. Pavlik just won titles in his own weight class. He should not have to chase people around, unless of course they are a bigger fish than he is like Joe.

You can expect a Pavlik vs Kessler fight maybe in 2009 sometime, unless Pavlik decides to move up in weight early.

Sounds good to me. There is really not a whole lot at middle for Pavlik outside of Abraham and maybe Winky. And he's a huge middle so he's going to move up at some point anyway.

I agree ICB it could come down to who could move the other guy backwards and I would probably give the advantage to Pavlik. Call me crazy but I think Pavlik might have the better footwork too which always plays a key role in these type of match ups. That's been my main criticism of Kessler form the longest time and I'm not letting up on it now. Although it is a lot easier to root for Kessler without his groupies around.

This is just a great fight though, if it was made it would probably be second to Cotto-Margarito in most anticipated fights. Like I said though I'm perfectly fine with Pavlik fighting bums at middleweight for as long as he can because he is such an entertaining fighter I would love to see a guy like him dominate the middleweight division the way Hagler and Hopkins did. He just seems like a middleweight champion to me.

But I wouldn't mind if it meant this fight getting made. Did Kessler fight this weekend? Sartison or whatever? I thought I saw something on that. I would like to see his rebound fight and Pavlik against a true 168 before it was made but either way it's fine.

I say bring on Rubio though, I was actually mildly impressed with Rubio on Telefutura. Not impressed enough to see him last with Pavlik but he has improved a lot from the fighter who I saw a couple years ago. Lots of punches, good jab and towards the end he couldn't miss. He's only like 27 too so it makes sense that he did improve. I would guessed him to be in his late 50's based on the number of wins he had.

    After him Grady Brewer.

Two aggresive fighters that search for the straight or overhand right, whilst throwing large volumes of punches.

Kessler although enjoying a size advantage in the trunk and abdomen, coupled with his more advanced movement may be slightly behind in terms of acute punching power. However, as both men are possessed of a considerable quantity of the good stuff a KO is possible from either side.

This is a ight that will have fans salivating either side of the Atlantic and one which will be difficult to schedule a venue for giving that Kessler has not previously fought outside of Europe.

    This fight would be unbelievable

both fighters are essentially knock out artists that as donny has already pointed out will look to throw those big overhand rights.

Kessler would be the heavier puncher at 168 but pavlik will throw more. All about what wins over on the night but ones thing for sure and thats that it would be great entertainment and with JC seemingly now set to retire as a 175 pounder it would be to unify and call themselves the undisputed king of the middle divisions!

This would be an extremely entertaining fight, both guys hit very hard and throw a great 1-2, if any complaint could be lodged against either of these fighters it's that they are fairly mechanical, relying on the 1-2. But how colud that possiblty be a negative from a fans perspective. This fight could almost look like Rock em sock em robots on steroids, very exciting indeed.

    Correct.

I guess what I meant to say, was would now prefer not to.

I previously gave him credit for travelling to beat up Mundine.

And, for the sake of accuracy, he has actually fought in Vegas as well. On the undercard of stablemate Johnny Bredahl's fight against Paulia Ayala back in 2000. With none less than Jay Nady as ref btw.

I've been saying for a while I would love to see this fight happen...

Either way though, it's good that Kessler is getting his head back in the game... I'm a big fan of his, and believe he's still got some good fighting to do inside the ring. I wished that he had of worked a bit harder to get back into it after the Calzaghe loss, even if it was against a lesser opponent. But hopefully the time off has given him a chance to regroup, look at what makes him such a hot prospect, and start kicking ass and taking names again..

I would only give Pavlik the slight edge due to power, and he's shown that he can take a punch well and recover quickly.. Of course, one can say that, and the next fight he could get really shaken...
But based on what's been shown by both fighters, I think Pavlik has shown that bit tiny bit more that would pull him through a win with a fighter like Kessler, who is very similar to him in stye..

It will be a really really great technical fight.. A battle of head on boxing... Good luck to both fighters!

    Hope this fight gets signed..

And I actually think Pavlik has quite a lot to gain by beating Kessler.. It does not seem like a big credibility type fight just to get the win in this one..
But to beat Kessler, he's going to need to show a lot of class, which could go a long way towards proving he's the real deal to his critics.. I think the Jermain 1 fight was his real test to prove what he's got.. A win of Kessler will be his next test to show that he is here to stay, and he can stand up to anyone in his weight right now.

Kessler is the man he is better than Calzaghe because he wants to take risks fight the best it was him who wanted to fight Calzaghe Calzaghe kept saying he wasn't that bothered about fighting him.Now Kessler wants Pavlik another top guy see kessler could just win the WBA title then make 21 defences against bums and has beens but no he likes to put himself on the line he isn't bothered about remaining unbeaten.Calzaghe beat Kessler but he isn't proving he is the better fighter by fighting old men way past there best because lets have it right at his best Jones would have destroyed Calzaghe Calzaghe never wanted him then.

    Ricky wanted to fight Mayweather.
Is Ricky therefore better than Mayweather?

Alfonso Gomez wanted to fight Miguel Cotto.

My point is Kessler is a top fighter who wants to fight the best take risks where Calzaghe always prefers to take the easier option.
