Not even the best of his era. He fought in the same time as Pac/Barrerra/Morales/Winky/B-Hop/Calzaghe/Roy Jones is still fighting.. He will fade in time. He is no Winky. He is no Pac. Time doesn't favor those who never fought real adversarial fights.

Whilst I do respect your point and I commend you for mentioning Barrera Morales & Co. I have to take issue with this post.

And even more unfortunately Booze, the part I must take issue with is the part about your favourite fighter.

Winky, although a massive talent and fantastic fighter, will not be remebered to be among this era's greatest.
Overshadowed by more flambuoyant, extroverted and aggresive fighters, Winky is not helped by the fact that he missed out on many fights because fighters hesitated in fighting him.

I can draw paralels between him and Charley Burley, perhaps even Sam Langford....They could all be viewed as much greater if they were not avoided.
Unfortunately the fact remains. Winky will not be recognised as a great fighter. He will be the enigma of the 90's and 00's.

I have an honest and legit question, when is the last time (or should I say at what time) can anyone really say that they were looking forward to a Mayweather fight because of Mayweather?

In that aspect I mean looking forward to the fight because they can honestly say they knew Mayweather himself was going to make an exciting bout?

The MW/DLH fight was more of interest due to DLH, MW/Hatton was a draw because of Hatton, same as the Gatti fight. I believe for the Mayweather/Baldomir fight they gave out commemetorive (OK I can't spell that word lol) pillows and it was the only fight to have recliner chairs at ringside.

Floyd really was not an exciting fighter, a great fighter yes but great and exciting are two different things.

Someone please tell me what are we missing with him gone? Please I am curious? He sat on his title he fought weak opposition for the better half of his career and ended it fighting a smaller man.

If you ask me all he did was hold up a lot of good fights at WW

    Graet fighter, great skills.

I don't like his attitude though. I also don't know why he wont face a legitimate threat in Miguel Cotto.

If Cotto loses to Margarito he will never get a fight with Mayweather, i think people need to wait and see who wins between Cotto and Margarito first then they have a better case regarding Cotto vs Mayweather situation. And i know this sounds ridiculous but what if Mayweather loses to ODLH ?? i think thats very unlikely but who knows ??

Ahh well that it is a shame hopefully he comes out of retirement for Cotto vs Margarito winner. Most boxing fans wern't looking forward to ODLH vs Mayweather 2 anyhow so no real loss there.

    That's easy:

Gatti - no one thought Gatti had a chance unless you buy into great white hype. I wanted to see what PBF would do to him.

Judah - say what you want about Judah being inconsistent, when the guy is focused he's one of the most dangerous guys in the division and he proved it for four rounds. I've never considered buying a PPV for Zab alone, Mayweather was the reason.

Hatton - again, didn't really think he had a chance and it makes the top ten FOTY list in my book. And I wanted to see what PBF would do to him.

De La Hoya - I haven't cared to see a DLH fight since he got beat up by Hopkins. I'm not some fan who'll eat up any crap Oscar poops out, but when this was set I was eager for it.
    Oops

No actually you just cemented what I said, You watched those fights with anticipation because the opponents were DLH, Gatti, Hatton and Judah. You gave reasons about wanting to see them or how they would fare. Had nothing to do with Floyd himself. You would have tuined in to see Gatti and Cotto for the same reason, Hatton and DLH for the same reason, Judah and Mosley for the same reason. Had nothing to do with Floyd himself.
