If this fight comes off, then Paul Williams's team is just throwing him to the wolves way too early in his career to make a few bucks.

I could see Williams being successful at 160 down the road, but they need to do this more gradually. He's never fought anybody who he did not have a significant height/reach advantage over, and needs to fight some C-level guys at the weight to get comfortable and to also feel the difference in power at that weight. You're probably right --hopping straight in with Pavlik is just his team getting impatient for a big pay day. I say be patient and wait out Cotto/Margarito (unless he just can't make the weight anymore-, but he didn't seem to have problems with that against Quintana).

I'm just making a guess here--but after reading the article again, it seems to me that this isn't a prospect Gossen is too excited about. Seems like it's Peterson pushing for this. I say this because the opening offer was $2.5 million, which Gossen surely knew he was not going to come close to getting. His quote about the potential of the fight also seems less than enthusiastic. If the financial demands don't come down, we'll know that Gossen never wanted the fight to begin with. He's been around the block, he knows what Mora and Winky got offered, knows what it'll take to make the fight. So, we'll see how serious Gossen is. I think he's just half-heartedly following a demand of Peterson's and hopes he can report back that Arum wouldn't pay Williams what he was worth.

No kidding. It would be ok if williams tested the waters before going for the shot at a higher weight but who does that any more?

Williams got beat by Quintana nto too long ago and now he is moving up to fight the most formiddable middleweight who recently beat Taylor at supermiddle ? Crazy move

Wright is always pricing himself out of fights but recently he hasnt won any fights so he is n no position to do that he looked washed up vs Hop and not much better when he fought Taylor. Pav would have beaten him anyway IMO. Paul will run from Pav but cant hide. The fight he really needs is Arthur Abraham.

Pavlik is taking the route of Taylor before he lost his titles and taking the smaller men. He is in a no win situation and there must be stronger challenges than Williams. Sturm would put more of a fight, even Duddy. Ridiculous to the extreme, in fact why does Pavlik fight Ouma and Spinks!

Pavlik vs Williams is crazy! Williams would be moving up two weight classes to fight the biggest Middleweight over the last 25yrs hes 6 3"

Why dont they offer Sturm 1.5m? Pavlik has stated he wants all the belts, crazy fight i know Pavlik has some of erm how can i put it nicely "Die hard" fans who just love to knock anything from 160-175lbs i wonder how they feel about this farce!

Pavlik gains nothing by beating Williams IMO (except a paycheck, 2.5 mill for fighting Lockett wtf??).
