Happens to me quite often although I quite like the sensation like an out of body experience with your hand. Just so numb and cold, can't be good for it but you can wave it round and not feel a thing.
It really was scary.

I hit myself in the face with it and it felt like a dead fish flopping against my forehead.
I then got a little panicked trying to "revive" it.
I just massaged it from the elbow down trying to get plenty of fresh blood in to no avail.

Of course it came back, probably because I got up and walked around, thus increasing blood circulation.
Oh I know what you mean, the first time it happened to me I was shitting myself. Best way to get the feeling back is to shake it in a circular motion (ie raise your arm up and then bring it down quickly), it'll kick start the circulation there.
