Bilbs for someone who would never watch the lighter weight guys you sure are critical of the heavier ones....
"If there's a better chin in the world than Pryor's, it has to be on Mount Rushmore." -Pat Putnam.
lol actually I don;t really criticise any fighters these days. I have nothing against Danny himself and I accept he's a pretty decent but inconsistent fighter.
It's just the fact that all the pundits are all so over the top with him about everything. He's the most skilled British heavyweight, the most naturally gifted.
On his day he can beat anybody. They even repeatedly tell us that he's the nicest guy in all of boxing, it's all so over the top.
He's simply not that good or that nice, I just don't understand it.
If you watched the fight on Sky, both the pre fight interviews with Steve Bunce and the post fight ones you'll notice the commentators only wanted to talk to Danny. When they asked McDermott a question they would constantly cut him off and get back to talking to Danny as well, which really irritated me.
He fought a stinker yesterday just like he does in virtually every fight.
He's fun to watch becuase he's so chinny and is always getting rocked and he has a big dig and gets riled up when hurt. But that is all he is, a decent domestic heavyweight who blows hot and cold. He's certainly no better than Audley Harrison or Matt Skelton yet we are constantly told by the pundits how shit they both are when neither of them has been dominated nearly as much as Danny as. He's been ktfo on 3 occaisions where he was completely outclassed and battered yet people still think on his day he's world class.
It just grates me.
But don't worry as soon as Haye make his heavyweight debut my disdain for the overatting of Danny Williams will be insignificant compared to how much I'll be pissing and spitting blood when they start touting him as the saviour of heavyweight boxing.
Believe me my little keyboard and mouse will be in danger of overheating when that happens![]()
Danny Williams never has and never will be world class.
He beat the shell formerly known as "Iron" Mike, big deal, he is still shit.
Danny is or were a good fighter lets not forget vitali klitschko quit with a shoulder injury and lost his world title even when he was a head after 9 rounds out of 12.
I know this is just a typical silly Bilbo bitch-rant against someone you don't like.. but it's totally absurd, even by your standards, to denigrate a fighter for winning with a dislocated shoulder![]()
So even though i'm wasting my time, once again - Danny's shoulder first went in the THIRD round, the fight ENDED in the 6th round
"Jeff Lacy fought an entire fight with a dislocated shoulder"![]()
Robbed blind....But I didn't really care...Big "fat" John mcdermott...British champ??
Peach of an uppercut that got Danny reeling though, he was unlucky...or he lacked the skills to finish him off there and then.
Bar that was actually a pretty exiting fight.
"It wasn't the night of the jab"
Totally agree wtih everything Bilbo says except for the dislocated shoulder thing , that was pretty gutsy for 3 rounds with such an obvious injury.
Williams is OK with a good dig and zero footwork, always has been and always will be. I get waht Bilbo is saying about the bullshit hype, cos I can't think of a single fight where he's actually reached this mythical 'on his day'.
Yeah guys don't misunderstand me, I'll credit him for showing guts fighting with a dislocated shoulder. My point is other fighters have fought with as bad or even worse injuries over many more rounds and yet commentators don't harp on about how brave they are whenever they fight.
Like I said Jeff Lacy. When Lacy fought Peter Manfredo I didn't hear Jim Lampley and Max Kellerman tell us how magnificantly brave Lacy was in his fight against Tyskpo where he tore his rotator cuff at the start of the fight and fought the entire rest of the fight with one arm. No they just said he looked crap last time out.
When Arthur Abraham fights the commentators don't tell us he's a hero who battled through most of his first fight with Miranda with his jaw hanging off his face. In fact I've never heard anyone say how brave and heroic Arthur was on that night, instead all they focus on is the point deductions that Miranda suffered.
Yet when Danny fights his fight with Mark Potter is ALWAYS brought up. On Bunce's talk show midweek they even interviewed Danny to ask what he thought about Rahman quitting against James Toney and then once again pointed out how brave and dedicated Danny was in fighting his fight with a dislocated shoulder against Potter.
It just frustrates me, it was 8 years ago and Danny apart from a win over a shot Tyson has never looked good since.
Yet people still will still say how committed and brave he is, and that how on his day he can beat anybody.
No he cant'! On his day he'll lose to any decent opponent who puts up a good fight, that's the truth! He's a decent domestic level fighter roughly on the same par as the Skeltons and McDermott's of this world.
He couldn't beat any of the current heavyweight champs either now or in his mythical prime.
Furthermore he has a history of being lazy and not training for fights, he nearly always switches off during every fight, and sometimes looks to be sleep boxing.
I've nothing against him really I just get so annoyed that he's the heavyweight that all the British commentators love.
They all seem to rate him the highest out of all our domestic heavies and believe on his day that he is world class, this depsite him never producing a world class performace or even beating a world class fighter. In fact every time he's faced a top level fighter he's been knocked out.
Tyson doesn't count, he was shot as we saw against Kevin McBride.
If we had an all fight all British heavyweight title league challenge with Skelton, Harrison, Sprott, Williams, Haye, McDermott and Gammer I'd bet a LOT of money that Williams wouldn't make the top 3.
I imagine most on here would pick Haye, Skelton and Harrison to beat him as well, and lets face it he's inconsistent enough that he could easily lose to the others.
Yet even if that event happened he'd still be praised for his bravery shown in the Potter fight and his win over Tyson.![]()
Yeah i'm bemused as to why he got 3 points taken off.
The one for the low blow didn't even land. MCd blocked it and it wasn't that low.
The one for the hand in the face was absolutely no different from what Floyd Mayweather did for 10 rounds against Hatton
And for spitting his gumshield out because he was in pain from MCd UFC submission hold.
I've lost all faith in Dave Parris.
